What is a bad pool header and how do I fix it?

Windows has been taking 30 or so minutes to start. I've tried repairing it but nothing seems to work and now I'm getting a blue screen that says "bad pool header".

Hi,

Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
Do you get any specific error codes?

A pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory pool issues).

Method 1:

Disconnect any external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and keyboard, check what happens.

With Windows 7, you can run a check disk from system recovery options using command prompt.

Method 2:

If the above step fails follow the steps:

Step 1:

Restart computer in safe mode and check if the issue persists. Follow the steps in the link:

Step 2:

If safe mode works restart computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists.Follow “step 1” in the link to enable to clean boot:

Follow the step 7 from the article to “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.

Method 3:

If the above step fails follow the steps in the link:

What about with WIndows 10? Many fix its for 7 will not work for 10

got a message about a bad pool header....and that windows would close and re-start my pc and to look it up online....what it means....cant find an answer....help

I solved this in a jiffy

the main problem with bad pool header is from rougue shortcuts and other useless software that remain after software has been installed

solution is to do a clean disk the old way select everything on the disk clean area

get rid of it and then do a third party software clean startup and reg also get rid of that stuff in prefect and temp and task folders

I have had a week of issues with Bad Pool Header . . . restarted so many times its untrue . . . reset the PC 10+ times now . . bought new SSD for the OS.

Still the issue persists.

I can only think its the ram . . . but with no means of narrowing down the issue . . . ie. a system that says its XXXX

rather than online information that says it could be . . .

Registry Keys

Ram

Device drivers

Its getting to the stage now were Im looking to replace my RAM . . . by the time Ive finished Ill have a new Computer . . .

Thinking of cutting my losses and getting rid of the real issue . . . . Windows 10
