Code 80080005 Error on windows update with windows 7 home premimum

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem.

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem. 

Check your date, time and timezone.

Check for malware:

Download, install, run, update and perform full system scans with the following two applications:

Removing everything they find. Rebooting when needed. (You can uninstall one or both when done.)

Then perform an online scan with the eSet Online Scanner. Remove whatever is found.

Reboot.

Get the System Update Readiness Tool (save it) and right-click on it and "Run as Administrator". Choose the right one for you:

Let it run/fix things.

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it is still failing, attempt this next:

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails, try this...

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

net stop wuauserv cd %systemroot% ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old net start wuauserv 3. Reboot 4. Try updating.

**Important** The following issues occur when you do this:

  • Updates that are currently downloaded but that have not yet been installed have to be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
  • When you delete the Software Distribution folder, your download history is removed.
  • If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and from Windows Update, you will have to re-select this option from the Windows Update Web site.

**Note** If the issue is resolved and you can successfully download and install updates, you can safely delete the SoftwareDistribution.old directory to recover disk space.

Reboot.

Register the WU components:

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

regsvr32 Jscript.dll regsvr32 wuapi.dllregsvr32 wuaueng.dll

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails after that - repeat this part ONCE more...

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

    Code 80080005 repeats -- that's how I found this thread.  So the error is known on this thread since last September, and there still is no solution?  Mine is a slim Dell laptop Win 7 32-bit OS I bought a couple yrs ago to take on the road, but I gave it to my 8-yr old daughter to play with the video cam when it turned out that MS email on Win 7 cannot be privatized like email on XP.  Great, don't give users a solution, give them another problem! 

    And now the Win Update unknown 80080005 error in this thread pops up a couple weeks ago when I tried to update the OS--with no solution that I could find. Tried all of the above noted fixes and more (from other threads), but nada; then tried rolling back numerous system restore points; didn't help.  Guess the next step will be a fresh re-install of the OS--oh, the many hrs since I started with this issue, and many hrs to go before I sleep...  Thanks, MS!  Any other suggestions?  Has anyone tried a fresh re-install yet?

    Just to contribute to the litany of misery above, I too have gone through all the recommended fixes and still have the 80080005 updater error....do macs have similar problems, I wonder?

    Yes.  Go ahead and buy one and find out if you like.  They cost a bit more, depending on what you use the system for you may run into some issues where you have to find new ways to do things.  Overall - they work great - just like a well maintained Windows machine.

    What *specific* updates are you trying to install?

    Hello,

    o.k. I tried to search which KB does not work. But when I go through the steps I am not able to see any update history which makes it for me hard to find out which KB installation causes this update error.

    What makes me a little wonder is the trusted installer is causing errors with some bucket error attached to it. My guess it is related to the update error. So I put it in as an additonal informaiton, maybe it relates to a known problem and a known solution.

    My next step would be to run a system repair via the Win 7 DVD. I hope it somehow solves the problem.

    Is there any way to find out which KB causes this problem and where I can find it? Maybe we can take it from there and see what might be a possible solution for this problem.
