Code 80080005 Error on windows update with windows 7 home premimum

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem.

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem. 

Check your date, time and timezone.

Check for malware:

Download, install, run, update and perform full system scans with the following two applications:

Removing everything they find. Rebooting when needed. (You can uninstall one or both when done.)

Then perform an online scan with the eSet Online Scanner. Remove whatever is found.

Reboot.

Get the System Update Readiness Tool (save it) and right-click on it and "Run as Administrator". Choose the right one for you:

Let it run/fix things.

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it is still failing, attempt this next:

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails, try this...

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

net stop wuauserv cd %systemroot% ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old net start wuauserv 3. Reboot 4. Try updating.

**Important** The following issues occur when you do this:

  • Updates that are currently downloaded but that have not yet been installed have to be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
  • When you delete the Software Distribution folder, your download history is removed.
  • If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and from Windows Update, you will have to re-select this option from the Windows Update Web site.

**Note** If the issue is resolved and you can successfully download and install updates, you can safely delete the SoftwareDistribution.old directory to recover disk space.

Reboot.

Register the WU components:

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

regsvr32 Jscript.dll regsvr32 wuapi.dllregsvr32 wuaueng.dll

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails after that - repeat this part ONCE more...

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.

    How long is WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab supposed to run before I see any information as to the problem? 

    "Detecting Problems" and then after it indicates:

    Windows Update error 0x80070057 (2016-05-12-T-07-18-31P)

    Problems installing recent updates

    Service registration is missing or corrupt

    It seems that many of the deletions/file name changes cannot be performed out side of SafeMode.  When I issued the command 'stop wuauserv' from the command prompt at admin level, it tried to stop the service as the prompt was something to the effect of 'shutting down.................' but came back with "unable to stop service".

    It changes to "Resolving Problems" of which it has run for 2 hours with no change.

    This is the only procedure that worked on 7 Professional SP1 integrated.  Registering the WU components seemed to do the trick.  Only one pass through the procedure was necessary.

    I was getting high CPU and RAM usage with svchost, but noTrusted Installer.  When I saw TrustedInstaller at the top Task Manager processes (show for all users) and svchost occasionally creeping up, I had a feeling it was fixed.  And it was.

    I have spent days trying to fix Windows update problems for my customers and have finally found a fix that works. First download and run autopatcher.. After you have installed all the updates for your version of Windows using autopatcher you can run Windows diagnostic tool WindowsUpdateDiagnostics.diagcab. This will fix Windows update and this will work on Vista, Windows 7,8,8.1. 

    I have not tried it on Windows 10 but I can't see why it wont work. Good luck

    It was not the methodology given that 'killed' your computer (unlikely it is dead, either); more than likely there were other issues with your computer - some of which may have been repaired if the directions were followed in order and for certain would have an easier recovery if basic maintenance (backups) have been followed.
