Metro App for Messenger "We can't send a message right now"

I'm trying to use the Messenger Metro App for Facebook chat, and I have the accounts linked. Whenever I start it up it says "getting info" at the top, but my status down in the bottom is always "Not Connected". I am unable to switch the status to Active or Invisible because these options are greyed out. When I type a message into the text box, red text appears above it that reads "We can't send a message right now"

After I initially installed Windows 8, the Messenger app worked fine. Later on in the night after some updates it quit working and I have rebooted my system several times since then to no avail.

I had the same problem as well. I uninstalled/installed and the issue didn't return yet. I believe the issue is with Skype, just as JoakimMagnusson noted.

Reinstalling the Messenger app fixed the problem for me , even with skype still being there I can send and receive messages.

    Hi again,

Again a new post to bump this topic and to encourage people to post their comments about the application. Here is the way to proceed

    • Open the application "Messages"
    • Head your cursor in the right top corner and click on "Settings" (the cog)
    • Select "Comments" and make a short description of the problem.

I hope everyone will take the time to do this and let's hope for a quick fix.

    Good evening,

    Regards

    Hi guys,

I'm in the same case than you... Except that considering the fact that it was really annoying for me, I decided to reinstall my whole system...

And guess what... the next day the problem is back, I'm literally PISSED....

So I uninstalled and reinstalled, it's working for the moment, but how long...

I'm seriously looking forward to Microsoft for a new version of their applications. I'm not going to uninstall/reinstall endlessly...

And as well, since it's a new installation, I haven't even installed Skype yet. I deleted my Windows.old folder before reinstalling using the clean-up disk tool in "Computer"...

I've done everything I could to fix this but I suppose it will be back at next start up...

    ._.

Always read the entire thread before posting. We've all tried this a lot of times.

New problem by the way - now I can receive but not send - I just get "Please wait, we're getting ready" - again, annoying. This is after a completely fresh W8 reinstall (formatted, installed Ubuntu, formatted, installed W8 - no chance of leftover files)

I was just now having a problem opening all 4 of the apps. They just stayed on that screen. To fix it, i moved my mouse to the right top corner and went to the setting while attempting to open an app. All 4 of the apps now work perfectly
