Metro App for Messenger "We can't send a message right now"

I'm trying to use the Messenger Metro App for Facebook chat, and I have the accounts linked. Whenever I start it up it says "getting info" at the top, but my status down in the bottom is always "Not Connected". I am unable to switch the status to Active or Invisible because these options are greyed out. When I type a message into the text box, red text appears above it that reads "We can't send a message right now"

After I initially installed Windows 8, the Messenger app worked fine. Later on in the night after some updates it quit working and I have rebooted my system several times since then to no avail.

I had the same problem as well. I uninstalled/installed and the issue didn't return yet. I believe the issue is with Skype, just as JoakimMagnusson noted.

Reinstalling the Messenger app fixed the problem for me , even with skype still being there I can send and receive messages.

Always read the entire thread before posting. We've all tried this a lot of times.

New problem by the way - now I can receive but not send - I just get "Please wait, we're getting ready" - again, annoying. This is after a completely fresh W8 reinstall (formatted, installed Ubuntu, formatted, installed W8 - no chance of leftover files)

Okay guys. Just to clear things up. If having the problem stated above, do the following. Right click on messaging and press "uninstall". This will also unstill "People, Mail, and Calendar" Just press okay. Then once they are all un-installed, Go to "store" app and search for "messaging" Its going to be called "Mail, Calendar, People and Messaging" Then Install that. It will reinstall all 4 apps. Go to the people app so that everything can sync. That will solve your problem :)

I hope this helped clear things up

Yes, we've been trying that. Eventually the problem happens again. Sometimes I have to reinstall two or three times a day.

    You won't get banned :)

For anyone who still has the problem:

A completely fresh install of Windows 8 appears to have fixed it for me; I don't know if it was an app interfering, or perhaps corrupt files (sfc /scannow reported nothing except a file that I'd changed to get rid of a "test mode" watermark - was using custom graphic drivers).

Although that's not much of a fix, re-installing an entire operating system...
