Metro App for Messenger "We can't send a message right now"

I'm trying to use the Messenger Metro App for Facebook chat, and I have the accounts linked. Whenever I start it up it says "getting info" at the top, but my status down in the bottom is always "Not Connected". I am unable to switch the status to Active or Invisible because these options are greyed out. When I type a message into the text box, red text appears above it that reads "We can't send a message right now"

After I initially installed Windows 8, the Messenger app worked fine. Later on in the night after some updates it quit working and I have rebooted my system several times since then to no avail.

I had the same problem as well. I uninstalled/installed and the issue didn't return yet. I believe the issue is with Skype, just as JoakimMagnusson noted. 

Reinstalling the Messenger app fixed the problem for me , even with skype still being there I can send and receive messages.

    IM+....very nice app and many options.

     

    I tried IM+ and at least it works fine while the messaging app doesn't work. It's just ridiculous that Microsoft developers are not even able to make their application work properly on their OWN operating system. The thing that I have a hard time understanding is that it seems many people are having the same issue, it has been ongoing for months, and nothing has been done, no update, nothing. I've got the french version, and on french forums it's the same. This is a messaging application, not a rocket science app... It's a real joke!

    Sup guys,

    I have the same problem - can't send messages via the app - the dread little notification is still there.

    I reinstalled and it worked for a while (30 mins), then it got again broken.

    I hope they fix it soon :)

    Actually we can provide more info if that is going to help solving it :)

    I've had this problem from the beginning.....With Skype, without Skype.   doesn't matter.  Last, I reinstalled windows...complete...from scratch....this is the 3rd time.   No change.

    But, here's the kicker:

    • This ONLY occurs on 1-2 contacts.  All the others are ok.
    • I get the incoming, can't send the outgoing.
    • The few contacts I have with this problem, 1 happens all the time.  The others seem to rotate.
    • I have removed that contact from all of my emails, and contact lists, even facebook.  I have rebuilt the contact from scratch.   It worked for a short while, then failed
    • I now use Skype to be able to communicate with the people that happen to be failing at the moment.

    Format and Reinstall Windows did NOT resolve this.

    Remove, Delete and recreate the contact, did NOT resolve this.

    Problem occurs, with  or Without Skype.  I only installed Skype to be able to communicate with the lucky non functioning contacts

    The IM connection does work on my WP8...but not on Windows 8 or my Surface Tablet.
