Metro App for Messenger "We can't send a message right now"

I'm trying to use the Messenger Metro App for Facebook chat, and I have the accounts linked. Whenever I start it up it says "getting info" at the top, but my status down in the bottom is always "Not Connected". I am unable to switch the status to Active or Invisible because these options are greyed out. When I type a message into the text box, red text appears above it that reads "We can't send a message right now"

After I initially installed Windows 8, the Messenger app worked fine. Later on in the night after some updates it quit working and I have rebooted my system several times since then to no avail.

I had the same problem as well. I uninstalled/installed and the issue didn't return yet. I believe the issue is with Skype, just as JoakimMagnusson noted. 

Reinstalling the Messenger app fixed the problem for me , even with skype still being there I can send and receive messages.

    I got the error then after 4 weeks it stopped and it all worked for me, now this morning started again, this is becoming a joke, actually it has passed the point of joke!

    Yup ik the feeling... Reinstall the app maybe it will work rofl.

    Well, i havent had that problem since the last time i posted. Have you updated your computer with the newest updates? After i installed all of the updates for my computer, i noticed the problem went away. There was an update for the app aswell. I can also restart my computer and the problem doesnt come back. So try installing the updates or even restarting your computer. Try those and let me know what happens.

    Well you know, the problem comes back from time to time, my application is up to date and I had tried anything when it wasn't working (even a full system recovery lol...)

    Now as I said it works but for how long, I just want it to work on a regular basis, it's supposed to replace MSN or even FB.

    Bump... :/

    I'm still having the problem from time to time, but it's annoying when I have to reinstall cause I lose all the previous messages... =='

    Please send your comments guys, it takes just 2 minutes...
