I have been a loyal Zune/XBOX customer for years and now looking to replace my 8gb Zune that I've had for 4 or 5 years and cannot find a Zune HD anywhere. Since it's been discontinued Amazon has jacked up the price of a new one. I honestly think that Zune is far superior to Ipod in the MP3 department. Now I'm gonna be forced to buy an Ipod Touch. I kinda feel betrayed by Microsoft.

I believe the answer can be summed up with in the first sentence of the press release, "...going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players". We appreciate and share your feelings regarding the Zune device, however we have decided to move forward with a new strategy and we hope that we will be able to get you back on board soon.

Microsoft is not doing this......The buying public is doing this.
Go to Dell.com, Walmart.com, Bestbuy.com.........there are almost NO mp3 players available for purchase anymore. Five years ago there were many, many mp3 brands available and all with different options and such.
The buying public has gone the route of the all-in-one phone. I would guess the only reason iPod would show an increase in unit sales is due to really no other mp3 player on the market anymore. But isolate iPod sales and I bet they are down.
MS did the right thing, get out of the player market and concentrate on the Windows phone application.
I have said this before, this is nothing new, MS mentioned this years ago......they saw the market going the way of the mobile phone.
As long as the Zune Marketplace still supports Zune devices, I don't see the problem. Of course unless you break, loose the Zune you have there in lines the problem.
My hope is that Zune becomes syncable with any mp3 player, including iPods.....That to me would be some serious growth for the Zune Pass subscription and the Marketplace.......I thought it might happen by now. Since it has not, I am suspecting that MS might be looking at releasing another line of players......maybe Christmas 2012.
But who knows.....

I'm sorry to say Robert, that I am not a 360 fan. I love windows 7 and what I can do with it and most of the great programs and services microsoft has to offer, but I hate windows phones. I have no use for one. I love my droid and can do really awesome things with it. I really hate to see the zune be discontinued, I even went so far as to order a custom 64G hd in my favorite color with my favorite team laser etched into it and my name. I went all out with it, and I love it. I came to order another one because now I'm at a real university and wanted to show off my pride with a 64G hd in my school colors. You can't say that wouldn't have been cool. iPod doesn't offer custom colors, the sound quality, or the simplistic functions of a dedicated media player. I chose the zune based on size, colors, sound quality, and the fact that I don't WANT it doing what an iPod touch does. I don't need a camera, or hd games, or all the other mess they can do. I have a lot of music, I just want to play it.
I hope that something can happen to where the zune is back in production, if for nothing else, custom orders. Either that, or make a zune app for the droid. Thanks for the time to read this.
