I have been a loyal Zune/XBOX customer for years and now looking to replace my 8gb Zune that I've had for 4 or 5 years and cannot find a Zune HD anywhere. Since it's been discontinued Amazon has jacked up the price of a new one. I honestly think that Zune is far superior to Ipod in the MP3 department. Now I'm gonna be forced to buy an Ipod Touch. I kinda feel betrayed by Microsoft.

Thank you for your question and your concern. I believe the answer can be summed up with in the first sentence of the press release, "...going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players". We appreciate and share your feelings regarding the Zune device, however we have decided to move forward with a new strategy and we hope that we will be able to get you back on board soon.

Actually I think he was referring to switching to an IPod not phone. Secondly, we are now in 2016, and still the ipod is not discontinued. Microsoft is clearly not just a software company. The only reason it started that way was because Gates and company, unlike Jobs and company, didn't just want to milk every cent from our pockets by forcing us to purchase THEIR hardware, and not allowing us to be free to CHOOSE our hardware.
Oh....don't change your Apple clock back to January 1st, 1970.... unless you want it to be a paperweight.

I agree. I was super bummed when I found out about this. I remember looking forward to buying the Zune HD from my brother in law who works at the Microsoft headquarters, but when I found out the Zune devices were being discontinued I decided not to. I'm not planning on buying a Windows phone because I love the Android Market too much. I'm switching back to it after having the iPhone the last 2 years (I hated it so much!) BUT I would totally buy my music devices from Microsoft, looks like I'll be forced to buy an iPod touch or something. I hate iTunes.... Still using my Zune for now, the one that I got SEVEN years ago. I just can't switch!
The big difference is that Apple makes a lot of money off of the iPod, Microsoft wasn't making much, if any, money off the Zune. It's true that people who used Zunes seem to like them, but realistically that's not enough to make it worthwhile to keep producing them.
I think its kinda stupid (sorry) that Microsoft wants us to use phones to replace our music player. And admittedly players are being used less often but its too soon to stop them. If apple stopped making ipods because the iphone came out then how many people would be angry at them right now? A lot! Recently microsoft has been lacking in key items. It made a tablet, but forgot the main audience. It made a phone that doesnt have enough functionality. It made a OS that with a special feature that feels like a chore to use. And I use the smart screen too, its just harder than double clicking a program. And then you made Xbox One way too costly. (I mean normal people dont want a Kinect 2). Perhaps some more market research would help.
