Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    I believe your problem is you refuse to use the fix program option and also refuse to uninstall the windows live essentials 2011 program, and redownload the product from the download center, after dropping your private and public windows firewalls, and any other third party firewalls, and stating what antivirus you have installed and dropping that protection as well, you also concentrate to much in the error and think just because it's a new computer that the software of this product was perfect to begin with,

    Not, it's a work in a very slow microsoft process, that might be ready for real release in 2012.

    Thank you.....I already have all these updates installed and they did not fix the problem. I can view pictures from a photo card using windows explorer but not windows live photo gallery. The issue remains unresolved.

    The link is already in your computer, first have windows check for updates, then review the optional updates, there should be listed, kb2454826/ kb2467023/ kb2487426, when you see any or all of these updates, a box is on the left side of it, check the box of one of them at a time and a brief description of that update will appear in the column on the right, there is also a link to more information about the update.
