Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    Sorry but this did not help me. I am still not able to see my pictures from SD card. I copied the answer sheet pff the computer and I did as the answer says to and no way hosay.

    Just had a reinstall (of Windows 7 home premium) done....2-4-15...still get the error except I was once able to view the photos on my SD with autoplay "view with WLPG"....now not working again...get the old error.. work around: put in sd card...go to start button..choose computer...then double click on storage device(Nikon in my case) then double click on the folder icon that appears and then double click on the next folder that comes up..then photos come up...or you cn do the same thing by going to windows explorer and on the left side of window under computer click on Nikon and then double click on the first folder and then the second...see screen shot below..Microsoft is avoiding the question about the error that comes up when autoplay comes up for some reason???  hope this helps

    PS by the way, what exactly does this error involve (ie: security,permissions or what?)

    The answerers are not paying attention to what you are asking...I have the same problem when autoplay pops up after I insert an SD Card...(I have a brand new version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit..).When I click on view photos using Windows live Photo Gallery, I get the same error box...I then goto start button, then computer then double click on the "device with removable storage" that has loaded the sd card photos.....I would like to get rid of the error pop up like you...I don't want to Import all the photos, I just want to view them first..maybe edit them and then I may want to save selected ones to my "pictures"... I want to be able to View using Windows Live Photo Gallery the photos on my SD card using the autoplay box...With my old computer, I ended up going to auto play options and changing the selection to "don't ask me" and then the autoplay box stopped popping up...NOT what I really wanted, but made the box go away that led to the error popping up..
