Windows update interface is unattached to IE. So this doesn't make sense! In 15 years of systems administrator i applied a lot of solutions that in first seemed not not make any sense, but it did.. This is one of them. But if you read my reply well, in a way it COULD make sense: Installing IE 11 TRIGGERS windows update, because IE 11 install starts FORCING downloading some updates needed for a succesfull install of IE 11. Use "my" solution if you want. If you dont, don't..

Hi sflorentino. Thanks for this update. If i look at the file dates of this kb, 20 oct 2015, this is a very recent solution provided by MIcrosoft. Didn't test it myself yet (will do in a next re-install of win7 and then upgrade to win10 circus) but good to read that there is finally a official kb / solution to this problem.

Problem solved.

It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!

It has to be something in my network.
