I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below: No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install Firewall shut off Temp files, cookies, history cleared background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc software distribution folder renamed tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually Added windowsupdate to trust zone ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available". Please, please help. Anyone.

It doesn't work for me. Neither do any of the other 5-10 fixes I found here at the Microsoft Community, Microsoft.com, and other websites devoted to Windows 7. The standalone installer does the same thing Windows Update does: it searches but never finds anything. I became so annoyed that I tried Windows 10, running a clean installation on a separate SSD. Windows 10 isn't bad, but it removes some user control compared to 7 and has its own problems (searching in File Manager, for example). So I'm back on 7. I let the thing check for updates overnight (about 14 hours) and in the morning it was still checking. My internet connection is fine; I'm hard-wired to a service that delivers consistent down/up speeds of 200/20 Mbps or higher. I suppose I could re-install 7, but that's a pain in the neck, and there's no guarantee that a new installation will operate any differently than it does on my existing installation. This is very frustrating. Updates are there to keep my PC up to date and help prevent problems, but they don't do any good if they never come through. I've also run the Windows Troubleshooter, for what that's worth. In my experience it seldom finds problems, and those it finds, it can't seem to fix. I don't know why it's still included.

I have had several with the issue the only things that worked for me: let it sit at windows update--sometimes for days-- some would eventually work, some not turn off windows update and reboot, then check for updates Use WSUS Offline--run several times and it would install a bunch of updates. Once it said it was done, then run windows updates normally--it would seem to have fixed the issue, and would work. just another "feature" for us to deal with....

Problem solved.

It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!

It has to be something in my network.

Set automatic updates to "Never check for updates", restart Windows and try again.
