I tried this, but was informed that my current version of IE was newer than the one I was attempting to install. So... I uninstalled IE 11 and attempted to reinstall it. Major failure; IE 11 installation fails every time, Windows Update is stuck in "checking for updates" mode, and it looks like it won't be possible to install Windows 10, which was the original reason I embarked on this journey. I'll keep scouring the knowledge base for answers...

My driver for my network connection wasn't installed during my Win 7 install. I had to manually activate my Win 7 install. This solved my issue.

Eventually it will update, but it takes very long time. Looks like you have to wait in line for 2 billions other computer. Anyway, just restart your computer a few hours later and go back to Windows update and click on update again. Done that on many computers. Not your Internet or firewall problem, just because it takes time to find the downloads.

Problem solved.

It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!

It has to be something in my network.

please please help, this is driving me mad!
