Problem solved.
It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!
It has to be something in my network.
Thanks for helping though!!

original title: Windows 7 Checking For Updates stuck forever - I know this is answered, but the solutions don't work for me. Please see details!
I have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".
Please, please help. Anyone.

- Did you format the HDD before you did the "new install?" [YES/NO]
2a. Have you Activated the current install of Win7 yet? [YES/NO]
cf. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/activate-windows-7-on-this-computer
2b. Is it Win7 64-bit? [YES/NO]
cf. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit
- Can you successfully update Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) manually via the UPDATE button on MSE's UPDATE tab? [YES/NO]
- Does the behavior persist if you open Internet Explorer (32-bit only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 [ignore any DOES NOT APPLY warnings] & run the Fix It in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes & reboot? [1]
- If still no joy, see...
How to read the WindowsUpdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093
Open WindowsUpdate.log & scroll to the very bottom/end of the log. Copy the last (bottom-most) 50 lines or so (no more than that) to your clipboard, then paste [CTRL+V] the contents of your clipboard into your next reply as your answer #5.
[1] Full Disclosure: Running the Fix It in AGGRESSIVE mode will delete your Update History (if there is any) but not the list of Installed Updates (if there were any).
I got a new hard drive, just installed OS, then tried to do windows update, but it is saying checking for udpates forever.
OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Windows activation is showing activated.
I have successfully updated Microsoft Security Essentials manually via the UPDATE buttons on MSE's UPDATE tab.
I executed WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab, but that did not help.
I have also tried MicrosoftFixit5012.msi, but that did not help.
I am pasting last 50 lines of windowsupdate log, please helpe me.

Hi sflorentino.
Thanks for this update. If i look at the file dates of this kb, 20 oct 2015, this is a very recent solution provided by MIcrosoft. Didn't test it myself yet (will do in a next re-install of win7 and then upgrade to win10 circus) but good to read that there is finally a official kb / solution to this problem.
Did everything you did, but this is what finally fixed it:
Windows update interface is unattached to IE. So this doesn't make sense!
In 15 years of systems administrator i applied a lot of solutions that in first seemed not not make any sense, but it did.. This is one of them. But if you read my reply well, in a way it COULD make sense: Installing IE 11 TRIGGERS windows update, because IE 11 install starts FORCING downloading some updates needed for a succesfull install of IE 11. Use "my" solution if you want. If you dont, don't..
