the update that worked for me was KB3102810 -x64 in a new win7 installation, it took about 10 min to show the updates and about 20min to install. Here is the link from microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49540

Worked like a dream. Even download Windows 10 for me. Wish I had found this earlier after sitting for a week pulling my hair out. Thank you so much. Just need a wig now!!

Did you try installing KB3102810? It was just recently released and after I installed it and the latest version of the Windows Update Agent, Windows literally took 3 minutes to check for updates on two different fresh Win7 SP1 machines (on two different networks / two different internet connections)

When you say "forever" how long did you wait? When we initiate a check for updates after a full OS build, we just walk away and come back to check on it every hour or so. The first check for updates process has been known to take all night...

Problem solved.

It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!

It has to be something in my network.
