Problem solved.
It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!
It has to be something in my network.
Thanks for helping though!!

original title: Windows 7 Checking For Updates stuck forever - I know this is answered, but the solutions don't work for me. Please see details!
I have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".
Please, please help. Anyone.

I'm not exactly sure as to why a new thread should be started...
Pick one or more:
No. I let mine run for over 24 hours and it still did not do anything. I found a work around though and finally got my updates. What worked for me was to cancel and forget about manually getting updates. I changed the time (Sundays at 3 AM to download updates automatically) to about an hour to the time it was then and kept the computer on. A few hours later I found that quite a few had been magically installed. Did it again (changed the time, etc.) and got more updates and did it a couple more times until I got "up-to-date" Whoopee! Then Windows asked me if I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 and low and behold, I now have Windows 10 working on this old computer (2008 bios and 1010 manufacturing date). Will wonders never cease........

I'm not exactly sure as to why a new thread should be started. This thread is about "Windows 7 Checking For Updates stuck forever" and this is exactly my problem.
No, this one had never Windows 10 installed
