Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below: No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install Firewall shut off Temp files, cookies, history cleared background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc software distribution folder renamed tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually Added windowsupdate to trust zone ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available". Please, please help. Anyone.

would it be worth uninstalling SP1 and starting again? this seemed to be when all my problems started? will it do any harm to anything else as various things I've installed since SP1 versions Somehow I don't think uninstalling SP1 would make any difference. Made a fresh install with SP1 included and have the same problem. Made the same install on an old Toshiba Satellite and received all updates. The other one is a newer model

Hi thanks, * Netbook is Fixed Yes I did that IE 11.. and found the purchase date to reg with Samsung.. & fixed most issues with Windows updates on the Netbook. It is low memory prob with it now. * HP Win 10 NOT solved However my HP laptop monitor bit the dust.. & the bios is fried & getting Error code 0x000000f & (21a) .. I have it hooked up to a tv, tried system restore it failed I need a repair disk.. mine I thought I had burned do not work. Shame if I lose my pics. Last days of my beloved companion are there.. I have lucked out before.. The bios is a Win 10/7 issue I am sure, If it will let me back in .. I can fix it. Though may end up installing a Win 8 disk. I would take this Telus **** in but it's falling apart... & I am on a budget. So doing searches with the netbook to find solvents. what may have happened I loaded a win 7 to downloads for the netbook to stick on the HP & it installed on the laptop after it restarted not sure why. They are set to NOT automatically load. I have had nothing but problems with Win 10 on that HP.

thanks, I tried this and was really hopeful.....but no joy it downloaded and installed IE11 and as a result managed to check and download other windows updates in the IE11 installer I restarted and was very hopeful when windows configured new updates on startup, now in my installed updates it shows a list of 10 or so installed today alas when I restart windows updates still tells me there are new updates and that windows update must update itself first, then immediately goes to checking and hangs I've tried again updating windows update manually and it says its installed in list and I've tried again running the windows update troubleshooter but that still hangs on checking too. on a separate note in trying to fix other problems that have only occurred since microsoft answer desk remotely tried to fix the update problem, I fixed the preview pane not working for certain documents by repairing my office install in programs and I fixed Intel Rapid storage technology not running by going into services and then noticed that many services were stopped and disabled at the time that microsoft ran a script to try and fix update problem. I restarted relevant ones and now that works would it be worth uninstalling SP1 and starting again? this seemed to be when all my problems started? will it do any harm to anything else as various things I've installed since SP1 versions

As per previous posts, we have found that if you manually download and install IE11, this seems to "kick-start" the update process. We have had much success with this solution.

Problem solved.

It was my internet connection!! I logged onto my neighbors via wireless unsecured (ssh... don't tell lol), and within 30 seconds, 77 updates came through!

It has to be something in my network.

Somehow I don't think uninstalling SP1 would make any difference. Made a fresh install with SP1 included and have the same problem.

Made the same install on an old Toshiba Satellite and received all updates. The other one is a newer model

As per previous posts, we have found that if you manually download and install IE11, this seems to "kick-start" the update process. We have had much success with this solution.
