Windows Update Failure Error Code 9C48 Unable to Fix.

I've cleaned the registry, retried update, rebooted, and still no luck. Any clue as to what this error code refers to ? My current version of IE is now dysfunctional too!

OK here is a solution (that worked for me):

a. Install IE9 from: http://internet-explorer.uk.msn.com/

b. Reboot

c. Uninstall IE9 (From: Control Pannel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates > Windows Internet Explorer 9)

d. Reboot

e. Run windows update and install IE9 (Now it will work).

f. Reboot.

    Using Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1 x64 - about a month old since setting up. IE9 update came shortly after setting up and is actually is running OK well except that the update keeps presenting itself and fails with **Code 9C48.**I just want this update failure to stop because a litany of other problems (with BOINC and Chrome) have occurred and I want all MS updates complete before I tackle them.

    This all began after Security Essentials (MSEC) broke Google Chrome by mistaking it for PWS:Wins32/Zbot

    So I follow the steps on the OP and:

    "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled."

    Uninstalling the update does not complete.

    I looked in Action Centre - System and Security Fix problems with Windows Update

    "Online search for updates ran successfully. Restart Windows Update and click ' Check for updates'"

    No change, no feedback: 1 important update is available

    "Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems   36.7MB"

    (It has finished downloading as is ready to install)

    I run it and it fails with **Code 9C48.**I tried uninstalling EVERYTHING that left a process in my Task Manager which was not Hard Ware related. Including MSEC

    As before... 1 important update is available

    "Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems   36.7MB"

    (It has finished downloading as is ready to install)

    I run it and it fails with **Code 9C48.**So... no change there.

    Looking at my update history - the oldest entry for IE9 for Win7 x64 is exactly the same, successfully installed and appears to work - apart from the attempted updates above now replacing my old home page with MSN.

    I hide the failed update and lo! new update are queued up, ready to download and install.

    But this is not a fix - it's a work around and - to be quite frank, a mess. And after clearing the backlog of essential updates - the problems I was experiencing with other programs has not changed in the slightest.

    This is a waste of my time. Having to continually fix problems like this is like buying a car and never driving because it's always in your garage being repaired.

    In other words: not fit for purpose.

    So I am now very happy to report I have found a better solution: sell the PC to some poor mug on eBay so they can rip their hair out over this - and buy a Mac.

    Hi,

    1. Which update are you trying to install?
    2. Are you trying to upgrade to Internet Explorer 9?
    3. Did you try to download and install IE 9 manually?
    4. Does the error occur when you try to install any update?

    Hi Afzal,

    Has this been resolved yet?  This was an automatic update that was done I think during the monthly update.   I have 32 Bit Windows 7 and this 19.3 MB update has not been able to complete for over a month.  It comes back with Code 9C48.

    I have tried everything I can on the web and nothing works.  I can really see how to remove IE9 completely.  Just want to do that and reload IE9.  Even tried loading latest copy but hat doesn't work either.

    I have to believe this has been solved.

    Grateful for your concerns:

    This is FYI only since I have totally reformatted whole system:

    1, Automatic update which encapsulated IE9

    1. Already had IE9 running smoothly on the system
    2. IE9 was already installed by an earlier update - this problem update was an exact duplicate
    3. Only one update pending which was IE9 - all other updates were suspended until this was resolved or hidden.

    System:

    Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7601 SP1 build 7601

    Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 64-bit - Phoenix LTD 6.00PG

    Since completely reformatting HD and reinstalling Windows7 Ultimate from DVD - I have elected not to download IE9 update and continue running with IE8.

    Update for IE 9 of 19.1 MB will not install...error code 9C48 comes up.                         

    Tried to reinstall IE 9 and Microsoft site says "Newer version installed on computer...cannot install.

    Cannot find IE 9 under "Installed updates" from start menu

    Clicking the IE icon results in a quick flash on/off of a screen       :(
