Windows Update Failure Error Code 9C48 Unable to Fix.

I've cleaned the registry, retried update, rebooted, and still no luck. Any clue as to what this error code refers to ? My current version of IE is now dysfunctional too!

OK here is a solution (that worked for me):

a. Install IE9 from: http://internet-explorer.uk.msn.com/

b. Reboot

c. Uninstall IE9 (From: Control Pannel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates > Windows Internet Explorer 9)

d. Reboot

e. Run windows update and install IE9 (Now it will work).

f. Reboot.

    I tried to follow ur suggestion of uninstalling ie9 and probally reinstall, but it refused to uninstall, does it mean that its work fine? But cannot still install an important update.

    Ditto and more finally hid the update as it can't be "Important" ebough that MS hasn't addressed this issue for over 2 months or longer.  Error message I get is:

    "IE9 Win 7 x64 bit update fails installation with Code 9C48 WU encountered an unknown error.  Get help here (link)"

    Sound familiar to you? I suppose if the error is "unknown" they can't figure out what it is and therefore there is no fix for it.  So why not just remove it from WU or WSUS till they can figure it out!

    I had the same issue (Windows 7 Ultimate). This solution really helps:
