Windows Update Failure Error Code 9C48 Unable to Fix.

I've cleaned the registry, retried update, rebooted, and still no luck. Any clue as to what this error code refers to ? My current version of IE is now dysfunctional too!

OK here is a solution (that worked for me):

a. Install IE9 from: http://internet-explorer.uk.msn.com/

b. Reboot

c. Uninstall IE9 (From: Control Pannel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates > Windows Internet Explorer 9)

d. Reboot

e. Run windows update and install IE9 (Now it will work).

f. Reboot.

    Hi,

    I eventually managed to install IE 9 correctly.

    First of all I ran SFC /Scannow to clean up system files  (this process will inspect all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL Files. If System File Checker finds an issue with any of these protected files, it will replace it.)

    This process replaced a whole load of files and I was then able to install IE 9 and it does now work correctly.

    I had run this process initially to resolve another issue - windows installer service could not be accessed.

    I'm frustrated with issues that keep coming up with Windows 7.  I've had numerous issues to contend with for example:

    1. iTunes will not load at times
    2. Excel hangs
    3. Windows Explorer hangs
    4. iTunes Updates won't run - windows installer service issue!
    5. I reboot every couple of days to 'clean up' my system as it slows down or starts to hang.
    6. And don't ask me about syncing Outlook contacts with my iPhone...

    I've got a new PC (6 months old) with 6Gb of RAM, Intel I5, 3.2 Ghz.

    Perhaps I run too much on it and expect too much but I spend at least 4 hours every month going through a series of fixes / clean ups.

    Anyway, rant over, IE 9 now works and hopefully this will help others.

    Hi, thanks for your response.

    I did follow step a.  Apparently the install worked although Internet Explorer would still not load.

    After step a and step b I have tried to run IE but it fails to start.  Then when I try step c I cannot find IE 9. 

    Is there any other way to uninstall Internet Explorer - I believe that I will be able to resolve my problem if I can uninstall IE properly.

    Hi Ian,

    I believe that you missed step a.

    Try to install IE9 by downloading it from http://internet-explorer.uk.msn.com/

    (NOT from windows update). If this works fine... follow other steps as above.

    I have the same problem as the others on here - IE 9 closes as soon as I start it.

    This solution did not work as I am unable to complete step c - I cannot find Windows Internet Explorer 9 and there are no installed updates dated today...

    The problem appears to be that I cannot remove the version of IE9 from my machine, therefore I cannot run the update.

    I have tried the following but this doesn't help me either:

    Control Panel

    Programs and Features

    Turn Windows Features on or off

    De-select Internet Explorer 8 (there is no Internet Explorer 9)

    Reboot

    I have tried all of the other options suggested in this thread and like everyone else I now use Firefox.
