KB2538242 visual c++ redistributable update on june 2011 keeps trying to install

During the june 2011 update, i have already downloaded the KB 2538242 visual c++ redistributable update but after restart, I still keep on having the same update when I checked. I downloaded it the second time around then restarted then checked for updates again, it is still there. Is this necessary? Why do I keep on getting the update? Do I need to download a lot of KB2538242 update? or is there something wrong with my system? or is it a form of virus?

    go into windows update, right click the listing, and "hide" the update

    But isn't that a bit like the ostrich sticking its head in the sand??oh yes, btw I too have the same prob.. I've seen and tried many fixes. But I haven't  given up just yet.!Anyone have a clue as what to do ta make this patch stick??? (that is short of scrapping MS, and getting a decent OS. I'm gettin' too old for this $hit)

    This is solution the worked for me.

    NOTE: use must have administrative rights on your computer (most people do by default) or use / elevate to an account that does to delete this key from the registry

    open regedit and delete the following key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\3e43b73803c7c394f8a6b2f0402e19c2

    I know, it's the registry and you don't want to mess with it. I am an ITPro so I work with the registry everyday.

    So...

    Here's a alternate method if you don't want to open the registry and take the chance of deleting the wrong key.

    Copy the following info (between lines) and paste in notepad. Save the new file as **yourfilenamehere.reg anywhere you like. (replace yourfilenamehere with what you want to name the file)

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\3e43b73803c7c394f8a6b2f0402e19c2]

    Right click your .reg file and select the merge or install (depending on your OS). This will remove this key from the registry.

    Go back to Windows Update and install the Visual C++ 2005 update waiting there. If it's not there use Windows Update to check for updates and install.
