KB2538242 visual c++ redistributable update on june 2011 keeps trying to install

During the june 2011 update, i have already downloaded the KB 2538242 visual c++ redistributable update but after restart, I still keep on having the same update when I checked. I downloaded it the second time around then restarted then checked for updates again, it is still there. Is this necessary? Why do I keep on getting the update? Do I need to download a lot of KB2538242 update? or is there something wrong with my system? or is it a form of virus?

    My windows update says that I need to install Security Update Microsoft Visual C+= 2005 Service Pack

    1 Retribution Package KB2538242 which I have installed and its on my list of being successfully installed (which is now

    in the list 5 times) but when I go to my windows update it STILL tells me it needs installed!!  I do not know what to do anymore

    as I have worked on this for 2 days. The installation is Not in my control panel though, PLEASE HELP

    Strongly suggest that everyone whose system is experiencing this installation issue contact Microsoft so that they are made aware of it.

    Had the exact same problem. So I manually downloaded vcredist_x86.exe from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=ae2e1a40-7b45-4fe9-a20f-2ed2923aca62&displaylang=en but then the first 2-3 times when I tried to install, an error message came right at the end. But at the 4th attempt or so, it installed properly. So I recommend downloading manually and trying to install as many times as it takes for it to succeed...

    Having the same issue. Installed it 4 times. I know when this happened on XP hiding it was a perfectly good solution but Hiding only works until you Restart PC, then it comes back. I need to try installing it after I turn of McAfee

    I think I fixed it by checking out system requirements for each version and found mine was x84 and I ran it and restarted and everything seems OK now and the auto update is now clear.......
