KB2538242 visual c++ redistributable update on june 2011 keeps trying to install

During the june 2011 update, i have already downloaded the KB 2538242 visual c++ redistributable update but after restart, I still keep on having the same update when I checked. I downloaded it the second time around then restarted then checked for updates again, it is still there. Is this necessary? Why do I keep on getting the update? Do I need to download a lot of KB2538242 update? or is there something wrong with my system? or is it a form of virus?

    go into windows update, right click the listing, and "hide" the update

    But isn't that a bit like the ostrich sticking its head in the sand??oh yes, btw I too have the same prob.. I've seen and tried many fixes. But I haven't  given up just yet.!Anyone have a clue as what to do ta make this patch stick??? (that is short of scrapping MS, and getting a decent OS. I'm gettin' too old for this $hit)

    "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243) failure" After trying for hours to download this and it failing I finally gave up and tried to hide it so it will stop bothering me to download it and when I click on any one of the other optional and 1 critical it blanks them out so that I can't do any of the others instructing me to do this one first. Makes me want to throw my computer off the building. I did that to a Packard Bell computer I had and it didn't work at all after that. So I tied a rope to it and took a drive out in the country on a really bad road letting it be torn to peices. It still wouldn't work so I guess I won't do that this time. :((((((((( Signed Frustrated!

    I've read every thing here.. Nothing works. I guess it's not necessary and I'll just hide it. I've already wasted a couple of hours trying every thing here including the run %temp%. There are several items that will not clear from the temp files. Renaming them made no difference. I'm using Windows Home XP. Good luck all!
