KB2538242 visual c++ redistributable update on june 2011 keeps trying to install

During the june 2011 update, i have already downloaded the KB 2538242 visual c++ redistributable update but after restart, I still keep on having the same update when I checked. I downloaded it the second time around then restarted then checked for updates again, it is still there. Is this necessary? Why do I keep on getting the update? Do I need to download a lot of KB2538242 update? or is there something wrong with my system? or is it a form of virus?

    Here is my reply to my contact at the help center re: kb2538242

     

    "I did as you suggested and removed all  Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 programs listed on Add/Remove Programs.  There were 3 listed and I had to remove them with the Windows Installer Clean Up tool, as Add/Remove Programs would not remove them.

    At that point the update (KB2538242)  which had been plaguing me, actually installed and the update no longer appeared.  You may want to note this as it worked for me.  I guess the old versions of the program would not uninstall using the update."

    The update appeared on Add/Remove Programs.

    I hope this works for someone else.  This was very frustrating.

     

     

     

    So, where did you get the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool?  I have the .NET Framework Setup Cleanup Utility, but not this one.  I'm having the same issue you all were, but whenever I try to manually install, the installations are either incompatible or it states that I need to insert a disc to complete installation.  That is a problem I haven't seen here yet.  I assume the one file that gives me that error is the one I need.

    In mycase, I had to reinstall Microsoft Visuall C++ 2005 redistributable package, because the temp directory where its installation file was, was not available !  It seams this fix is looking for the original redistributable package.

    So I installed it from Microsoft page http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3387

    Then installed the patch, and it worked !

    if you are sure that windows has already installed the update, when it comes back asking you to install again, just right click and "hide" the update.  this should work.

    I don't know why Bill Gates doesn't make a solid software that doesn't require so many vulnerabilities updates, updates, updates....!

    I have my theories, I think he does that so people go to the next window 8 or whatever he will call it, cloud, whatever... He makes crappy software so people are always hopeful that the next one will be the one forever solid!!!

    Why did you feel you needed to download a 2005 security update? When you saw the offer, list either on the MS website (As I did), or elsewhere, did you first search I-net Blogs about potential problems? (Like I regretfully, did not!) I now am unable to get rid of the daily, repeated "Do not turn off your PC until installation is complete". It has "installed" about 50 times already. I did clean out the cache, but it's still doing it. MS in my judgment has an obligation to provide and advertise a DEFINITIVE FIX for this problem, rather than let PC users post their ideas of a "fix" ranging from simplistic to very complex and risky-sounding "solutions"!
