I was trying to uninstall a program that snuck in while I was tryinh to activate my Nook. It's called knctr by itibiti. When I try to remove it a message pops up that it is still running and I should shut it down. I can't find it anywhere to shut it down. How do I get rid of it?

SUCCESS IN REMOVING KNCTR. YES!! Down on the right corner of your desktop near the digital clock should be a drop-down arrow. Click it and you'll see the 'knctr icon'. Click the icon and then click 'Shutdown'. Then go to your control panel and 'Uninstall' that program. I've already rebooted my system and it is gone. Good Luck!!

I have encountered this Virus/Malware on 2 different computers in the last 2 days.
It appears with a purple K icon from "Ititibisystems" Both were XP Pro SP3 systems, both had Norton 360 AV on them. It slows the system down so significantly that after trying to get it off there for 2 hours using combofix, malwarebytes and ESET NOD32, that I finally just wiped the systems and reloaded windows on them. After I backed them up of course..
This did not come from Microsoft it is some adware software is used to display ads with audio trailers. If you encounter it, just backup that system and reload it, otherwise you will be wasting your time. It slowed my malwarebytes scan down to over almost 1.5 hours that was my first clue I needed to reload.
