direct3D acceleration is not available in Windows 7

Dear all,

I've just installed a game in Windows 7. However, after installing, i couldn't start the game. An error came up like this:

"Could not find any compatible Direct3D devices. Please make sure that the correct graphics driver is installed on your system, and Direct3D acceleration is enabled".

I did come to the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to check. In System tab, i found that DirectX version is DirectX 11. In Display tab, all three DirectX features "DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture acceleration" are all not available. And i couldn't find the "Enable" button to activate. It's not like Windows XP that you can find "Enable" and "Disable" buttons. It appeared nothing here but "Not available" line.

I've already installed DirectX 11 SDK and DirectX 11 End User Runtimes. I also try to update graphics driver (however, windows 7 announced that the current driver is up to date).

I'm using Laptop Compaq Presario CQ42 262TU; Intel® Core™ i3-370M (2*2.40GHz, 4Threads);Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD 500.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS SITUATION!!!

I spent over 5 hours on this one and finaly figured it out. 

Use REGEDIT and change the "SoftwareOnly" key from "1" to "0" in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers

and then reboot the system and it should work.

The problem was the DXDIAG under 64bit worked fine but it was disabled for 32bit programs.

    i had the same problem. Ill tell you how to fixiit. Go to your driver and uninstal them then go to google and install intel hd graphics drivers and then your stuff will be available, you are welcome. (it took me forever to figure this out i hope it helps)

    same problem i have it ......but as updated relates to regedit......it was not succesful ....plz help what to do

    Interesting. I suppose that as XP only has DX9 the game couldn't force DX11.

    Also unusual for a game to default for what are effectively high or ultra settings as most

    games will go for settings below the capabilities of the card they detect.

    • If you used the configuration files (or saves in some cases) that were in your User folder on XP 

    (if there were any),  after upgrading to Win7 64bit they would have also been a potential source

    of the problem.

    Anyway - Maybe because system set-ups vary so much, it's not uncommon for games fixes that

    are not necessary for some to work for others.

    Another example is putting a Direct X file in a games install folder.

    Maybe I missed it before you used the link tool, but I didn't see the part below -

    About this text from Wiki page: Manually set the aspect ratio to that of your monitors.

    Before I found this Wiki page I tried to set every possible resolution manually, but the problem was still there.

    I know that my post is not the exact answer to the question, but I thought that maybe it will help.

    About the question on beeing able to access the games graphics settings before this error:

    This Tomb Raider opens like this: I click on a shortcut to the game and a window opens. This window has 4 (or 5) options: Play, Options, ... So I acces the options before I enter the game.

    At first I couldn't acces the game graphics settings (everytime I clicked on options, the menu crashed).  After googling a bit I found one poste, where someone was giving a link to a page where I could copy and save the text in a text editor and save it as *.reg. After I launched this reg file, I could open the options window, but I was still recieving the "failed to initialize Direct3D with curent settings" message when I clicked the play button.

    So after I did what I describe in my first post here, I was able to run the game for the first time on win 7.

    At first I had windows XP 32 bit on my computer, and after installing Tomb Raider (2013) I was able to run it (and never got "failed to initialize Direct3D with curent settings" message). But I thoutgh that since a 64 bit OS would use more RAM I formated my HDD and installed win 7. And then this problem appearred (updating my graphics card drivers didn't do anything).

    I'm using ATI Radeon HD 5450.

    I've fixed the link now (I guess this is what you ment with it being incomplete).
