Method 1

I looked at the following and the box was already unchecked.

a. Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options -> Advanced.

b.Uncheck the option - Check for server certificate revocation.

Method 2

I ran theSystem File Checker [SFC] scanand got a message saying Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Then I tried to following the instructions in your link

To determine which files could not be repaired by the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1. Open an elevated command prompt.
2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

I couldn't seem to get this to run.  Was I supposed to run it as stated or did I need to substitute anything like something for the [SR] ?

I found the sfcdetails.txt file but it had nothing in it.

Note The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details from every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file includes information about files that were not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Verify the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found the last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.

Scanning the CBS.log file I found the following errors:

CSI    00000097 Error STATUS_CANNOT_DELETE while executing operation DeleteFile on [l:74{37}]"??\C:\windows\System32\Wat\WatUX.exe"

CBS    Failed to remove catalog file Microsoft-Windows-Security-WindowsActivationTechnologies-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.1.7600.16395.cat for package [HRESULT = 0x8000ffff - Unknown Error]

CBS    Failed call to CryptCATAdminRemoveCatalog. [HRESULT = 0x8000ffff - Unknown Error]

I could not run Windows Update (Error 0x8e5e047) or update Microsoft Security Essentials. (Error 0xc8000247).

I replaced the hard disc on my Lenovo X200 Tablet with a Western Digital 500 GB SATA drive, and could not run these tools, or the Lenovo update.   After reinstalling windows, I still received these error messages.  I manually downloaded updates from the Lenovo site and the Microsoft website, was was able to run both updates.  i had to run the Windows update several times, since there were so many releases.  Now, 10 days later I am receiving the same messages relating the the Windows and Security Updates.

1. I tried the System Maintenance trouble shooter, and received the 0x85E0247 message, which led me to this site.

Dead end here!

2. The System File Checker tool returned the following message"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.  Details are included in the CBS.log

I went to the C: Windows/log/CBS/CBS and received an "Access is denied" message.

Another dead end!

3. I tried to update the Windows Drive utility and received: "Intel Drive Update Utility failed.  Possibly a web browser compatibility, firewall or installation issue".  I checked for Java updates as suggested, but had the latest version installed.  I reinstalled anyway, but same result.

Yet another dead end!

Suggestions anyone? I had no problems receiving automatic updates prior to reinstalling Windows on the new drive

This solved my issue on an hp recovery set.  Hours later after trying numerous techniques outlined here in the M.S. Forums and other places.  This worked. The Intel Rapid Storage Driver. oO Ty Ty.

Other note is that nothing worked; Windows Defender, Update, Troubleshooter... still sfc would always say corrupted files unable to fix.

Now we have bingo.

I am amazed about how old this is and its still an issue. No Good.

I downloaded the driver, but received an error message stating that "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".  I Googled that error, and was referred to an Intel Graphics download, which, when I tried to install I received a "Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" message. 

The user on that string also was unable to solve his problem.

One would think that MS and/or Intel would address a problem in installing their own fixes that has lingered for so long.  Apple is starting to look good!

I've had this problem with Update not running and troubleshooter not running either since installing my Windows 7 on a new, larger Toshiba Hard drive.. except I'm not on a Toshiba laptop I'm on a Dell Lattitude..

I recognised the 'Rapid storage technology' bit from the decription of the drive.. but the rapid storage technology program isn't running on my Dell.. to make it more weird, I installed two of these 320GB Tosh drives in two almost identical DEll E4300 laptops, both running 64bit Win 7 Pro SP1, and the other one is u=running Windows update just fine!!!

So now I'm stuck again - any help appreciated
