What is the BEST Registry Cleaner for Win 7  Ultimate or Pro  64 Bit version OS ?

When I search the internet  with that same Question ,,  i get  hundreds of links  and every company says it has the 100%  BEST  Registry Cleaner software  and i bet 99%  are liars !!

Microsoft  really  needs to TEST  all Registry cleaners &  make a list of the Top  5 BEST  software  for many different uses and post that list so  your Customers can  know what is the Best to use to Fix  their PC  problems .

Please !!  be Nice  and help your Customers who have bought and use your Microsoft  software ..  OK ??

So, to sum it all up:

    • Microsoft designed the registry as a vital part of the Windows operating systems.
    • Microsoft failed to supply us with a registry maintenance tool to check, clean and repair the registry, and check for wrong use of the registry
    • Software producers use the registry incorrectly, and don't clean up their registry entries after their software has been removed.
    • So after a while the registry becomes partly a garbage bin of orphaned and badly used registry entries.
    • There are certainly circumstances that these registry entries may cause serious problems.
    • Never the less, Microsoft claims leaving the garbage in the registry is what you should do, after all Microsoft has no utility to solve the garbage problem.
    • Microsoft also warns that using a third party registry cleaner may cause more problems because you never know how software suppliers have abused the registry.
    • So if you have problems with the registry, you're left on your own using the registry editor to search the thousands of junk entries for the ones that are causing the problems. Microsoft does not offer any support.

It all sounds like a really well thought over set up, designed for a stable operating system.

I've been following this thread for some time.  I no longer know why.  The constant thread email notifications are a distraction in my email account.

The core of all the arguments is, over time a Registry will become enlarged by unnecessary entries and will slow down a system.  This is probably true, if it happens over a very long period of time, the computer CPU is slow and has minimal RAM.  Also, the user would have to install poorly written programs and/or a large number of programs.  I've been running my Win7 install for over 2 years and I haven't noticed any problems.  **I have an i7, 16 GB RAM and an SSD**.

Creating a Registry optimizer would be a complex task.  It would require large programming resources.  These resources are only available to large, cash rich, companies such as Microsoft.  If Microsoft were to hire dozens of programmers to write a Registry optimizer, it would be very costly.  Thousands of users would have to buy the program for Microsoft to break even.  My guess is, Microsoft knows this and this is why they never wrote an optimizer.  This is also why, IMHO, you cannot trust smaller companies to write such a complex program.

You haven't read any of the responses have you?

Orphaned registry entries cause almost NO problems at all. Why?

Because In Windows 7 and above, applications don't search the registry for their specific entries - they go straight there, so how do orphaned entries cause a problem?

I'm not sure what you mean by "badly used" registry entries - a registry entry is either used (by an installed application) or it's orphaned. If it's corrupted and an installed application can't use it, the solution is normally to re-install or repair the application, not clean the registry. If it's corrupt and the application has been uninstalled, then it's orphaned and doesn't normally cause any problems as orphaned entries are ignored...

Most registry problems are caused by damaged, missing or corrupt registry keys. Registry cleaners remove entries. They do not replace registry keys. An In Place Upgrade will replace keys relating to Windows. An uninstall and reinstall of software will usually correct third party registry entries..

I too am an old guy, b4 DOS had a TI 99A. There are many "Scamware" programs for sale on the web and of course each is the "best". BS, some will send a "trial" giving you an unrealistic number of errors and this program will fix 1 or 2 errors but send money to get the other hundreds fixed! Not quite true and many of these guys are selling you what looks good on the screen and you see all errors being fixed. I have good reasons for not believing the screen, they can show you a Donkey Kong screen while errors are being fixed (maybe some) but I would not buy any of the "PC FIXERS" selling out there. As for being nice, as if Microsoft is providing you with a PC FIXER program. Gates has no idea what it is like not to be a millionaire, perhaps Billionaire is more correct! I think of Diogenes searching for an honest man when I look at the sales pitches for software. Some work but none of them make your PC squeaky clean as claimed. If you have the cash then buy one of these

programs and give us the name and tell us how well this software performed. Scene may read like this, "But screen said everything was "squeaky clean" but my PC is not much better if any than it was before". I found WEBROOT to be good as a virus checker and a few other "PC FIXERS" that performed well but many are just out to get your money! Think we have a "PC FIXER" GUY in here trying to smooth over sales of malware or someone who reviews software. Never seen a bad software review! At Comdex after a few drinks some of these guys start talking and you should hear what they say, the truth. Had some good talks with some of these guys, especially when they were buying the drinks. The preceding was brought to you by Jake, aka HAMMERHEAD with a few more akas' to keep some people guessing. Thanks to those of you who read this and agree. (my email is ******@gmail.com)

I set this question  THREE years  ago and as yet no answer. For Windows 7 over 1000 updates !

Booting of my Lenovo i5 laptop has gone from 30 seconds to 6 minutes !

Registry has gone 100KB to 500KB.

Same story on my friends and family PCs / Laptops. perhaps we should return to CP/M8 !

Most people seem to buy new computers cause the old is slow or crashed.

Most developing countries are not interested in 2nd hand computers.

I use CCleaner and Glary Utilities (very week new version).

I think I should get together with OS programmers and make new OS: DOORS or BOSS specially suitable for PCs killed by the Software (burden!) - Registry  and Garbage in almost all folders !
