Would I be correct in thinking that windows auto update is also set to install Recommended updates? If that is the case the first thing I would do is turn off recommended leaving only Important selected

To answer the question of when the TDR occurs, it only happens when I use Autodesk Inventor Pro 2015. I'll be doing a tutorial and be instructed to open a file or do a scan of an object for analyzation. The page will go blank for a second and then I get a message saying the display driver has stopped working and has recovered. I lose all the work I have done up to that point in the tutorial and have to re-start the program. It doesn't happen every time but, it is annoying enough to get me upset. As I said before I have contacted nVidea with no resolution found. I have also deleted some of the nVidea driver updates because I was told by nVidea to try that as a solution. When I go to a previous driver, it seems to fix the problem for a day or so, but then it starts again. I went through every driver configuration I could find for my GTX570. If you need more info let me know. I desperately want to fix this on my own. Even if I have to go into the registry and make adjustments. I dread going into the registry because I have always been advised against it. I built this computer myself so I want to be the one that repairs any problems. Even if I screw something up, I still want to be able to say I gave it my best shot. Thanks for help so far!

Why isn't there some way the common man can fix problems by themselves? I can rebuild an automobile engine but I can't fix this damn computer.

If you can rebuild an engine you can fix your PC.  Admittedly PC's can be more complex, in regard to programming in particular, and know one can claim to know everything about them,  but it is still

just a machine.

PC's are not trouble free and can be cantankerous, but you can keep your PC happy by applying the same sort of dedication and lack of fear of the unknown knowns that you apply to mechanics

(including at times replacing somewhat expensive parts).

However, if you aren't interested in the in's and out's, or nuts and bolts of Windows, yes you will

need a tech/mechanic.

From what you say, I guess we can assume you have been to the Nvidia forums already.

It sounds like you are having a problem with the dread  TDR error.  TDR errors can be difficult to troubleshoot, but as Gordon suggested, start your own thread and give full details of when the

TDR occurs and what fixes you  have tried. 

Also list your full system specs ( a Speccy report would be better).

Run Speccy in normal Windows mode (not Safe mode). When it has finished analysing the details

click on 'File'  and  'Publish Snapshot' - Copy the 'unique URL' and paste it in your new post.

No premisses on finding a fix, but maybe we can and least eliminate some more potential causes of TDR.

• There is some small chance that a registry entry relating to the Nvidia drivers is causing the TDR,

but this can be addressed during Nvidia driver installation (which we can cover in your new thread) .
