Not really.  MS doesn't recommend using a reg cleaner, because there is no way to know what is no longer needed.  The registry was designed as a garbage bin -- you put stuff in it, but never delete it.  Thus it grows and grows and grows... It is something that is needed, but MS doesn't know how to create a safe one, so it's unlikely they would recommend one.

    ...

    -----

"I first installed 16 GB (4x4GB) Kingston RAM which failed its MEMTEST immediately.  A few months later, I installed a different Corsair 16 GB RAM set.  The Corsair set failed after 6 months.  I now have another Corsair 16 GB set, XMS3, and it has been working OK for 2 years."

Wow - that's a streak of bad luck, or bad overclocking/overvolting.  I've never had a bad RAM.

Not to say that it does not go bad on occasions, just that your situation would be uncommon.

I never overclock or overvolt any of my components.  I didn't even use the RAM's XMP profile.  Both the Kingston and Corsair CML 4x4GB sets were 1600 MHz.  The Kingston set failed its MEMTEST even before I installed Windows 7-64.  The Corsair CML set failed after about 2 months.  When the Corsair CML set failed, it BSOD'd twice.  The second time, it corrupted my Registry and I had to reinstall everything.  It was one of the few times I did not have a backup.

My Asus P7P55D-E mobo seems to have a problem with 1600 MHz 4x4GB RAM.  I decided to install a Corsair XMS3 1300 MHz 4x4GB set, CMX16GX3M4A1333C9.  I bought it in May, 2012 for $55 after rebate.  Today, this set costs $170.  So far, the XMS3 set has been working OK for 23 months.  I MEMTEST it once a month.

Because I RMA'd the Corsair CML 4x4GB set, I have an extra, unopened CML16GX3M4A1600C9 1600 MHz set.  I also have 4 extra 2GB Corsair XMS3 1600 MHz sticks.

I apologize for getting off topic. My control panel doesn't list SlimCleaner Plus and I don't recall ever installing it. I will run a MEMTEST to check my RAM. Hopefully it will give me some insight as to what is wrong. As far as downloading the latest nVidea driver, nVidea told me not to because they think that is causing the problem. After the last driver update is when the problem started and I uninstalled it. That seemed to fix the problem temporarily. Thanks again!

OK, since we are here in this thread, I'll add this for you.  Go to nVidia Driver Downloads - Advanced Search, enter:

Product Type:  "GeForce";  Operating System:  Windows 7-64 bit

Product Series:  "GeForce 500 Series";  Language:  English (US)

    Product:  "GeForce GTX 570";  Recommended/Beta:  "Recommended/Certified"

The output list will be all WHQL.  You cannot get this complete WHQL list any other way except for the above method.  I am currently using v314.22:

    314.22-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe

If you still have problems, use v296.10:

    296.10-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe

It is important you follow the instructions at the "Ultimate Nvidia Driver Guide for Uninstalling and Installing driversets."  Follow their instructions for uninstalling.  Follow their instructions for custom install.  Do NOT use nVidia's Express (Recommended) install.  Do NOT install nVidia's:

3D Vision Controller Driver - Unless you own a pair of nVidia 3D glasses

3D Vision Driver - Unless you own a pair of nVidia 3D glasses

HD Audio Driver - Unless you own a HDMI 1.4 audio receiver.  Can cause serious system problems.

nVidia Update - This is not required, installs a process and is bloatware.  You don't want to update anyway.

The only drivers you should install are the grayed out default Graphics Driver and the PhysX System Software driver.  Be sure to check "Perform a Clean Installation."

    Good Luck.
