What is the BEST Registry Cleaner for Win 7 Ultimate or Pro 64 Bit version OS ?

So let me get this straight. Many uninstall procedures leave lots of junk behind in the registry. Microsoft is fully aware of this, but can't be bothered to write a utility to clean up the junk. So Microsoft claims that leaving the junk where it is doesn't do any harm. If you do have a problem with it, you're left on your own to fix the problem with the registry editor. The whole thing is so dodgy that third party registry cleaners can not be designed with sufficient quality to prevent undesirable or even catastrophic side effects. Sounds very convincing.

Many people have been conned by the purveyors of registry cleaners into thinking that a registry full of "errors" is the cause of all kinds of undesirable things.  It is not.  There is no reason to "clean" the registry unless there are specific entries that are causing some kind of problem.  This  usually comes into play when a program has been uninstalled and a reinstallation fails because of invalid registry information.  When this happens, the specific keys or entries involved should be removed or changed, not the entire registry. 

Microsoft doesn't provide a registry cleaner, I suspect, because registry cleaners are unnecessary and more likely to do harm than good.   As Gordon B-P correctly points out, if software developers would provide uninstall routines that clean up everything that their software installed to begin with, there would be no issue at all.

They were invalid entries and shortcuts, that can be more than orphaned entries. And if orphaned entries have no effect, then why is it so difficult for Microsoft to make a utility to remove that junk?

Invalid entries and shortcuts STILL don't have any effect that you would notice on machine performance.

So why bother to remove them? There's no point.

Yes, but there are thousands of companies producing bad uninstall procedures, and there is one Microsoft that should be able to give us a registry maintenance utility.

And its is not just orphaned entries, the registry should be consistent in all respects. Databases, filesystems, and and other things should stay in perfect condition when we use them. Never the less, we have utilities to check them and repair them if necessary. Why should that be different for the registry?

If you're really worried about orphaned registry entries (and there's absolutely no need to be as they have NO appreciable effect on computer performance) then the blame should be laid at the door of third-party software manufacturers who don't provide a proper uninstall routine...
