Blue Screen! Asus Laptop Windows 7 64 bit

Anonymous
2010-11-22T23:38:09+00:00

I have an ASUS laptop that is running Windows 7 64 bit.  It blue screens every once in a while.  I haven't noticed this at any specific time or when I am running a particular program.  It is completely random; some days it will blue screen several times, and other days it won't at all.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

It is very difficult to deal with a complex question in a thread where there is more than one person with a problem. Blue Screen of Death Errors can prove very complex and difficult to resolve.

    Hi Ayungwi,

    ·        Since when are you facing this issue?

    ·        Did you make any changes to the computer before the issue started?

I would suggest you to disable Automatic Restart on system failure and try to make note of the error message and reply back with the exact error message you receive on the blue screen. Once we have the exact error message we will be in a better position to determine the exact nature of the issue and fix it.

Follow the steps below to disable Automatic restart on system failure:

    a. Click on Start.

    b. Type system in the search box after clicking Start. Choose System from the list of results.

Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simply double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step d.

    c. Click on the System link.

    d. In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.

    e. Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.

    f. In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to automatically restart.

    g. Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window.

    h. Click OK in the System Properties window.

You can now close the System window.

From now on, when the computer shuts down the PC will not automatically reboot and you will receive the error message, make a note of it and post it back.

Alsoyou may open event viewer and check if there are any other significant error messages/codes. Refer the link below for more details:

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

You may also access the link and follow the steps to troubleshoot some if the common bluescreen errors on the computer.

Resolving stop (blue screen) errors in Windows 7

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/Resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-Windows-7

Hope this helps and postback with the required information.

    Thanks and Regards,

I am also having asus laptop with Intel I7 procesor, 8GB ddr3 1600mz, 2GB Nvidia Graphics card. Plz tell me weather it is a hardware problem or OS problem...

    Hi,

Results verified with WinDBG, DumpCHK, and BlueScreenView.

    Lot of different Bug_Checks - 1A, D1, 0A, 1E, and 3B.

Remove ALL power and then reseat the memory, actually remove and replace - do not just snug.

Make sure the vents are clear and listen to be sure the fans are working.

**References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.**This is my generic how to for proper driver updates : (Check for BIOS and driver updates.)

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.

For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,

description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model

of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate

Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click -

Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party

with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device

Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for

BIOS, Chipset and software updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after

    each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually

shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers

particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as

    needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check

    manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installing and updating drivers in Windows 7 (updating drivers manually using the methods above

is preferred to ensure the latest drivers from System maker and Device makers are found)

    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update drivers manually then it is a good idea to disable Driver Installations in Windows

Updates, this leaves Windows Updates ON however it will not install drivers which will usually be

older and cause issues. If Updates suggests a new driver then HIDE it (Right Click on it) and then

go look for new ones manually if you wish.

Memory tests do not catch all errors such as mismatched memory (possible even for sticks
