Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK?

I've searched throughout the Control Panel and it's submenus and options but can find no means to initiate a scan for disk errors!

I did find chkdsk.exe in the Windows\System32 folder but when I double click it, the only response is a flash of the DOS {black, command prompt} screen! Is that the correct response?!

Is there no way to run [schedule] a scan disk [for errors] as there has been in earlier versions of Windows?!

It's done the same way in Windows 7 as it was in earlier versions of Windows:

  1. Open the "Computer" window
  2. Right-click on the drive in question
  3. Select the "Tools" tab
  4. In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>.

    Well this is how I open it I go to start then computer right click on drive C: then I go to properties

    from there I can find tools at the top  inside the tools I will find Error checking, defragmenting,

    and last we will find backup..I hope this helps..

    So after about 48 hours of CHDSK running on my HP 1010-SA, i get this message "2232 large file records processed". Now what next...?

    Unfortunately you did not try it yourself or you would have known that it cannot run check disk directly it has to schedule it to run because it cannot run while windows is running.  It allows you to schedule it but when you reload Windows it does not actually run check disk.  Another ball dropped!  Hopefully someone here actually knows how to get it to run.
