Major Mouse problems, Left click acting like right click, very annoying!

My son studying architecture installed Maya on Windows 10 and found combination having too many problems. He restored his system back to Windows 7 and it's fine after that. Possibly new version of Maya is required for Windows 10 and Windows 10 also requires Service Pack 1 or 2 before it becomes reliable. Never use heavy software like Maya or AutoCAD on latest Windows version. Wait till Service Pack 2 and then use them.

I am having the same problem but I have some observed details that will help narrow down the problem.  I am experiencing this problem when running Autodesk Maya.  This thread came up as the only one addressing this problem but no one seems to have specified any software use in all of this.  I do have this problem but I am not sure it is the same as each of the previous posts since no one seems to say what specific software triggers the glitch for them.  I will do my best to contribute but from this point it will be from the perspective of "every detail counts" and not "give it broad and vague."  If this post is too technical or confusing, I'm sorry.  I did type it under the misunderstanding that the OP was using a specific software.

First off:  

1:  It's not Windows 7 because I'm running a legitimate Win10.

2:  It's not a virus because my computer is brand new and I don't download or serf on this and it is constantly scanned by a legitimate McAffy for viruses.

3:  It's not Dell (although they are riddled with driver problems) because mine is a Lenovo.  It's a brand new Erazer X315, top of the line with 12GB of RAM, AMD A107800 Radeon R7, 12 Compute Cores 4C+8G at 3.5GHz, 64bit operating system and running Maya from a Solid State Drive.

4:  My Maya is a legitimate Student 2016 version.

5:  My computer has NOTHING on it except Autodesk products, Adobe products, Steam, Skyrim and lots of Skyrim mods (on different hard drive of course).  There are no cracks, hacks, file sharing or torrents on this machine.

6:  It's not an overheating problem because my little beast of a computer hasn't even kicked on it's fan yet.

7:  It's not due to a complicated scene.  I'm working on a low res cartoon character.  The image planes are hidden, there aren't many polys, I have no additional editors or window open.  

8:  The only other software running is Chrome and a timer app I downloaded (I set it to 15 min. to remind me to save often; pro tip).

9:  Trust me, this is Windows 10, all my drivers are up to date.  I feel like I have suffered through more driver/software updates than anything else ever since I unpacked this computer and especially since updating to 10.  I haven't tried reinstalling the mouse driver yet but I have doubts that it's an issue with the mouse.

10:  I have a USB mouse, it is the factory gaming mouse that came standard with this computer so there should not be any compatibility issues, battery issues or brand issues.

Here are a few details that have not been observed yet and may help a tech savvy person:

1:  It is not simply that the left click acts as a right click (for me anyway).  When left clicking in Maya, the specific menu that pulls up is equivalent to Ctrl+Shift+RtClick which should show some deeper significance.

2:  This error only occurs in the view port.  As soon as your mouse hits a software menu or another running app, it works fine but you cannot access any of the view port commands at the top of the view window such as View, Shading, Lighting or any of the buttons that might switch from shaded mode to wireframe.  This suggests it may not be a mouse error but a camera or viewport error.

3:  This is not a 100% command replace.  I mean that even in the view port, Maya still can tell the difference between the two clicks.  I proved this by holding Alt then using the two mouse buttons.  Each button gave a different navigation command.  Alt+LftClick gave the Rotate Camera action while Alt+RtClick gave the Zoom/Dolly action.  This is significant!  It means this is a problem with processing specific inputs, not your computer or driver or hardware!

4:  I have had success by simply restarting Maya but I refuse to accept this as "how it has to be."  I've tried the Ctrl+Alt+Del trick as mentioned above and it didn't work.  I tried holding Ctrl+Shift for a few seconds then hitting Alt but still nothing.

5:  I have noticed some odd behavior with combining Alt with the Ctrl and Shift when accessing the right click menus in that I accidentally stumbled across a new RtClick menu with an inconsistent use of Alt and I still haven't exactly figured it out to see if there is a trick I don't know or if there is a button glitch.

6:  Since the glitched menu that comes up is the same menu I have been using to turn on my Symmetry, I did try turning it and Topology off but that didn't do.

7:  Switching view ports does not help.

8:  Unplugging the mouse didn't help.

9:  I noticed that this has only been a problem recently in this project.  I have been working on this project for a few hours now and it has only been doing this on the third increment (final detail increment).  Again, it can't be a performance problem as this is the best gaming PC for under $1k and it's specs are so high, this should be a walk in the park.

10:  I've noticed that the glitch only occurs in the following manner:  I'm using the Multi-Cut tool to fine tune my topology and edge flow.  It's been about 7 years since I last used Maya (been using Max during that time) and I don't remember this tool being so... laggy.  It takes a good 2-3 seconds to update the geometry with each overall use of the tool (after RtClicking to end your cut).  I have experienced many crashes simply due to this tool as I right click to end the cut then hit W to switch tools or try to navigate with my mouse and if the Multi-Cut tool did not finish calculating before I (instinctively) did something else it causes Maya to crash or... this glitch. 

11:  Based on the fact that this only occurs (for me) in Maya and is isolated within the specific instance where Maya is pulled into temp memory and resets when it is reloaded, I deduce that it is most likely a problem within the software or Windows running the software.  I have seen issues where my iMac and Macbook just don't interpret some of my Adobe features where, if using a Mac, some of the features in Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign are very dysfunctional on an OS level (which is why I have bought a real computer).  So I know there may be OS problems but since my OS is different, I can't be certain.  I have read all the previous posts on this thread and no one has bothered to ask about software so I can't even tell if any of you are having the exact same issue as me.  

My theory is there may be a code process overlap problem that results when one input is given before the last input was resolved.  Theoretically, if you try to use the right click or left click in some way while a tool is doing it's final calculations, it causes a temporary toggle effect.  This is not an impossible explanation as I have seen this same issue happen multiple times while playing Skyrim.  In the game I will use the Caps Lock to toggle the Walk/Run speed appropriately; if there is a fluke of timing with another input or some calculation problem, the Walk/Run speed will invert it's values in relation to the Caps Lock being on or off.  I resolve this by going into the Tab menu (where the Walk/Run controls aren't accepted as appropriate input) and then hit the Caps Lock.  This toggles the Caps Lock input value on the keyboard while the in-game value of Walk/Run is locked in stasis by the menu, thus fixing the glitch.  If this is a similar problem, I haven't figured a way to reverse or prevent it yet but I do believe these observations do provide a narrower, more accurate assessment than the typical "reinstall everything and see if it fixes it" approach.

My questions to the audience are:

1:  Are there any correlations to software or commands you are using?

2:  Have you tried duplicating the problem or at least narrow down how it occurs?

3:  When the glitch happens, have you taken time to explore it?  See if you can reverse the details of exactly what is happening wrong and if there is any part of it that is still right.  

4:  Is it isolated within one or more Apps?  

5:  If you can duplicate the glitch, can you use my theory to trick the software into reversing it?

6:  Are you seeing this happen with any correlation to the lag or process time of the software?  What I mean is, does it happen when you get too impatient and click faster than the computer can think?  Just admit it, we all do it; you have to tell the doctor all your dirty secrets so he can figure out what ails you.

Had the same problem with my wireless Microsoft 3500 mouse when connectng to  a tablet (on the PC it was fine). There is a little pushbutton in the middle, just next to the batterycompartment, pushed that once and the mouse went back to normal.

I believe what could solve the problem instead of restarting: hold ctrl + shift for a couple of seconds and hit alt
