Change Power Settings

How to:

  • Set your computer to go (or not to go) to sleep after a specified period of inactivity. For more information, see Turn off a computer: frequently asked questions.
  • Adjust the brightness of your display.
  • Choose when to turn off the display during periods of inactivity.
  1. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.
  2. Under the plan that you want to change, click Change plan settings.
  3. On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display and sleep settings that you want to use when your computer is running on battery (if applicable) and when it's plugged in.
  4. For more options, click “Change advanced power settings.”
  5. When you’re done click OK.

Sometimes I want to only temporary prevent the sleep of the computer. E.g. during a big download.

I use the starmessage screensaver ( http://starmessagesoftware.com/moonscreensaver/ ) that has an option to prevent the sleep for the next 2 or 8 hours or permanently.

I use 2 or 8 hours, so that I do not need to revisit the window's settings to change it back.

This is the benefit for doing this via the sceensaver. You only set it once and you do not need to revert it afterwards.

I have a HP 500-037c purchased Jan 2015 with Windows 10 Home and Processor AMD A10-5700 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.40 GHz Installed RAM 12.0 GB (11.2 GB usable) and can load more GB if wanted and it has Cortana. I have everything and it sleep goes to sleep after 1 minute.  I hate it doing that because I have to log in every time  it does it. LOL

How do I thank you? Thank You! I would say it over and over and it still would not be enough. It was set on 1 minute. LOL For over a year now I have been dealing with this. They should pay you for helping others. It is Great to see someone do it for free. You are good people (as we say here in Darlington, SC)! You should have seen me running through my house to get back to computer before it would do it. Sometimes I would make it as long as I was fast. ROFLMAOYSST
