You never want the computer to go to sleep?

Type Power Options into the start search box

Press enter.

Select ChangePlan settings next to the prefered plan that is selected

Set Put the computer to sleep - Never.

Change Power Settings

How to:

  • Set your computer to go (or not to go) to sleep after a specified period of inactivity. For more information, see Turn off a computer: frequently asked questions.
  • Adjust the brightness of your display.
  • Choose when to turn off the display during periods of inactivity.
  1. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.
  2. Under the plan that you want to change, click Change plan settings.
  3. On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display and sleep settings that you want to use when your computer is running on battery (if applicable) and when it's plugged in.
  4. For more options, click “Change advanced power settings.”
  5. When you’re done click OK.

    I may have found my solution. In checking through my iolo System Mechanic settings, I found that the "Power Saver" option had somehow gotten turned on. When I turned it off, I found that the display and machine didn't kick into sleep after 90 seconds.

    If anyone is using an add-on system maintenance utility, check its power settings. They seem to override those in Win10's native array of utilities.

    OK, I upgraded to Win10, and everything was fine until the day before yesterday. I have received no notifications of any updates or other modifications to the system.

    Suddenly, the machine goes to sleep after a minute or two (no more!) of keyboard or mouse inactivity. I have tried everything "Lead3" has suggested. All the power settings are set to "Never" turn off the display or put the machine to sleep, and the computer still goes to sleep after 1 minute or so of inactivity.

    Not only does the screen go black, but any running programs go into suspension as well. I use iolo's System Mechanic, and it just quits running when the machine goes to sleep. Touching the space bar wakes it back up, but I have to "sign in" again from the login screen.

    Any new suggestions?

    we all have done this nevertheless the computer figures some way to goto sleep or hibernate even though we have set the never box to never.
