Change Power Settings

How to:

  • Set your computer to go (or not to go) to sleep after a specified period of inactivity. For more information, see Turn off a computer: frequently asked questions.
  • Adjust the brightness of your display.
  • Choose when to turn off the display during periods of inactivity.
  1. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.
  2. Under the plan that you want to change, click Change plan settings.
  3. On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display and sleep settings that you want to use when your computer is running on battery (if applicable) and when it's plugged in.
  4. For more options, click “Change advanced power settings.”
  5. When you’re done click OK.

I am not an "expert" just a long time Windows user who has dealt with a lot of error messages.

After browsing around and looking at people's posts, here is what I deduce.

The pertinent error message seems to be the one I paste below at the bottom of this post. If you see an error message with Event ID: 10016, that is not the error message. I have looked that up before and people say just to ignore it. I'm still getting that and have no problems. So that's a "known" error message that seems to have no bad things happen.

The one thing I saw that was interesting was that starting in Safe Mode *DOES* stop this. I have not tried to diagnose in Safe Mode in Windows 10 so I don't know the exact procedure but in Windows 7, etc., what I would have done is to start in Partial Safe Mode where everything loads but the Networking. Write down (IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER) everything that is loaded without Networking. Then you start at the bottom and selectively go back up the list and eliminate everything one by one until the last one that is displayed where the problem starts. That will give you the last thing that was loaded when the error starts. (This is not the step-by-step procedure. It's a little involved but people that have done this before will know what I'm talking about.)

Despite the error message below, it may not be related to a printer. People have done a clean reinstall of Windows where no printer is present and still gotten the message. It's hard to tell. It could be that a printer driver is installed by default, and that driver combined with another condition throws that error. What I DON'T know is whether all the people that posted about this had their power settings changed. It could be that they went directly to Event Viewer when their computer went to sleep and never checked their power settings.

Sorry this doesn't actually solve the problem but perhaps someone can take this and figure this out.  (I am not actually getting this problem myself. I was getting a similar problem where it randomly blue screened but upgrading to version 1803 fixed it.)

    ************

The driver \Driver\WSDPrintDevice for device SWD\DAFWSDProvider\urn:uuid:1c852a4d-b800-1f08-abcd-2c768a77b817/http://1c852a4d-b800-1f08-abcd-2c768a77b817/PrintService stopped the power transition
