How do you change/edit the cell phone number in Windows Live/Hotmail?

I've followed prompts to pages which claim to allow you to change your cell/mobile phone.  But, when you get to the next page there is nothing when allows you to edit or change the number. It list the old cell number(which I have not used in 5 years)...I'm trying to get the calendar to send appointments to my phone.

The information in this post was accurate and correct in November 2011. It is no longer the correct way to change a phone number.

This is the procedure that should be used after November 2017:

Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/

Click on Security

Click on Update your security info

Click on Add security info

Add the new number and remove the old

 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

I just did this to remove an old phone number - in Hotmail - upper right Options - more options.

On left Show Options - Hotmail - under Managing Accounts - Account Details - Account Security -

Security Info - Manage - Delete the phone number and follow the rest of the prompts.

That is what worked for me however if you have any issues then use Hotmail's Support.

Answers is a peer supported group and unfortunately has no real influence on Hotmail.

HotMail has its own Forums so you should ask your questions there.

    Hello, im having a similar problem. My old Phone numbers are my security access numbers. Numbers that send a text to my phone for a code. How do i changes this to my new phone numbers to text to.

    The method you provide is the one that doesn't work!  I found the proper method at the site you mention, in the Security & Privacy tab... then "more security settings"... NOT the one that says "change phone number".  I had to delete the old phone number and then enter another one.  What's sad is that the OP pointed this misleading text out in 2011 and MS hasn't been paying attention (nor can they be easily contacted... we have to rely on other users to get an answer about their software).

    I recently bought an Orange phone number but it seems that outlook does not have it in their database? It says invalid phone number while I have already started making calls with it. Please help me out.

    Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_numbers_in_the_United_Kingdom and scroll down to the Format section. Also read this section, below...

    "Number ranges starting 01 can have NSN length..."

    Does your number have an acceptable number of digits?

    When entering the number try it without  ( or ) or - or a space, just the 7 or 9 or 10 digits.

    The phone number listed on my MSN account is not current.

    Need to verify a password change & update profile.

    So to "receive" a code number via phone or text is impossible.

    I have not had that number for years....

    What am I to do????
