The Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242) is installing multiple times. Three times so far in two days. I had an identical problem with another security update for Microsoft Visual C. My OS is Windows 7 64 bit. Must I download and install this update manually for 32 and 64 bit systems to fix this problem (which was the fix for the installation problem with the Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2467175))? If not, what do I need to do to fix the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Hi brianchill84,

If you have a retail version of Windows, perform a repair install by completing the following steps:

  1. Log into Windows with an administrator account.
  2. Disable your antivirus, firewall and any other security program.
  3. Insert you Windows CD/DVD into the drive.
  4. Run setup.exe.
  5. Select Install Now
  6. If asked, uncheck I want to help make Windows installation better and select Go online to getthe lasted updates for installation.
  7. Accept the license terms and click Next.
  8. Click on the Upgrade option.
  9. Once the installation is complete, enter you product key.
  10. Click on Use recommended settings.
  11. Select your time zone, date and time settings.
  12. Windows will then prepare your desktop.
  13. Check to make sure there are no files missing.

Please note, this process should not affect your personal files, however, as a precaution, make sure you have a backup of your data before you peroform these steps.

If you do not have a Windows retail disc, please create a new thread in this forum. Include the complete version of Windows you have installed, the make and model of your computer and any troubleshooting steps you've tried.

    It does not fix the problem but it does hide it.... I have the same problem but it has "successfully" downloaded over 30 times since 8/24/11.

    I called support through microsoft and spoke to a foreign woman which the line was full of static & she did not speak English well at all.

    I was told that since my warranty had expired she would need to transfer me.

    I was then transferred to an American woman which straight out told me that for $14.95 for a yr she can fix the prob which is most likely a "virus" that is causing it to not load correctly.. I have a $90.00 anitvirus program through Norton & I do not believe that I have a virus.

    When I refused this she says theres another option for $9.95... for just hlp with the problem. At the same time there's a dog barking in the background so she's obviously working from home..!

    GET WITH IT MICROSOFT!   Professional?   Not from my point of view..... !

    If anyone else have any ideas? I've tried manually downloading & did not work.  Hiding gets rid of the aggravation only....

    Because that ISN'T a fix.  You're just hiding the problem.  Update says the component has installed, but it isn't there after restart.
