my windows update has installed updates today august 10 2011. but these three dotnet updates (KB2539636 KB2533523 KB2468871) failed to install... can anyone help me please?? thank you...

btw i am using windows 7 home premium

...x64 - is for 64bit WIndows 7

...x86 - is for 32bit WIndows 7

Maybe what you can try (before you try points 1..11) only turn Off your antivirus and turn Off UAC, then manually install the updates that failed to installand run Windows update to install rest of updates. Turn On your antivirus and turn On UAC. How turn Off UAC see point 5).

If these steps above not help, try to use these ones:

1) uninstall Net Framework 4.0 client from „Uninstall and change program“:

2) If you still see Net Framework 4.0 client in „Uninstall and change program“ use this tool for unistallation Net Framework 4.0 client:

download, unpack and run „cleanup_tool.exe“ – from pull-down menu choose „.NET Framework 4“ and click „Cleanup Now“

After uninstallation restart computer
Turn Off (Disable) your antivirus
Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

6) Download and install Net Framework 4.0 from here (choose right language):

(same for 32bit OS and 64bit OS)

7) restart computer

8) try to install manually all updates (KB??????) that failed to install

9) run Windows update and install rest of updates

10) T****urn On UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

11) Turn On (Enable) your antivirus

Hi Dena

Why do I need to create a new thread when my problem is "Windows Update fail to install update KB2468871",which is what this thread is all about?

I appreciate LC's solution which worked for many.

But there are others such as KerryMiller, lladedalusll, Bob KZ, Shabalstaff & me (to name a few) who did not get the problem fixed.

I'm just requesting Microsoft to resolve this update as I had spent many hours trying the various solutions.

My computer could not shut down for a few weeks until I realize I can turn off the automatic windows update.

Consumers should not be solving this kind of problem by searching the world wide web to find an 11-step solution which worked for many but not for some.

I'm just a home computer user and not an IT expert.

Just re-issue an update that works for KB2468871 please.

I will be most grateful.

P/S- By the way, Microsoft Answers did not notify me when you responded to my earlier question although I ticked the check box.

I have all these files on my External HDD that seem to be pertaining to this update. Do I still need all of these files, or can I delete them?

I've been trying to update my. NET Framework 4 for about two months. The problem were the KB2468871 and KB2533523.

This week I decided to prioritize this issue, mainly because my backup program stopped working after an update. He requires .NET 4 Updated.

I performed all the procedures writed by you. Like nothing worked, I choosed to use the cleanup. NET framework program.

I decided to uninstall all versions of the. NET framework installed on my windows 7.

Yesterday afternoon I started the cleanup and this morning he was not finished.

Then, I interrupted and uninstalled. NET framework 4 only. In this case the program worked correctly.

I seen n log file that versions 2 SP2, 3 SP2, 3.5 SP1 and 4 were installed.

I then started the procedures mentioned by you of to reinstall.

However, nothing installs in my computer.

The system does not accept updates or installations from windows update nor that I downloaded from their links.

For version 2, the program says that my OS is windows vista. I don´t tried install version 3.0.

Version 4 does not install because "the program source can not be set."

what should I do?
