my windows update has installed updates today august 10 2011. but these three dotnet updates (KB2539636  KB2533523  KB2468871) failed to install... can anyone help me please?? thank you...

btw i am using windows 7 home premium

...x64 - is for 64bit WIndows 7

...x86 - is for 32bit WIndows 7

How to find out if Windows 7 is 32bit or 64bit is here:

Maybe what you can try (before you try points 1..11) only turn Off your antivirus and turn Off UAC, then manually install the updates  that failed to installand  run Windows update to install rest of updates. Turn On your antivirus and turn On UAC. How turn Off UAC see point 5).

If these steps above not help, try to use these ones:

1) uninstall Net Framework 4.0 client from „Uninstall and change program“:

2) If you still see Net Framework 4.0 client in „Uninstall and change program“ use this tool for unistallation Net Framework 4.0 client:

    download, unpack and run „cleanup_tool.exe“ – from pull-down menu choose „.NET Framework 4“ and click „Cleanup Now“

  1. After uninstallation restart computer
  2. Turn Off (Disable) your antivirus
  3. Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

6) Download and install Net Framework 4.0 from here (choose right language):

     http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718

      (same for 32bit OS and 64bit OS)

7) restart computer

8) try to install manually all updates (KB??????) that failed to install

9) run Windows update and install rest of updates

10) T****urn On UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

11) Turn On (Enable) your antivirus

    Right - it took me a time browsing through the various suggestions and asking Mr Fixit but I had now managed it.

    I had 12 important updates that got stuck .... one person put it down to being a quirk of Vista and suggested turning off automatic updates and installing the updates manually one at a time.It is tedious as the computer has to restart each time but it is OK if you do them in batches. (I did 'burn some midnight oil' !!

    But, there were 2 or 3 that were stubborn - another chap suggested turning off anti-virus and Firewall - which I did and bingo all my updates were installed.

    I have  Microsoft Security Essentials as my Anti-virus and Comodo as my Firewall.

    Just before answering your query I had an optional update which appears to have been installed OK - the proof of the pudding will be on my next restart.

    My settings, therefore, are : Automatic updates OFF but LET ME KNOW. I have a Control Panel short-cut on my desk-top so that a quick check for updates is not too much of a chore.

    Hi,

    I'm having the same problem, with the same updates. Now I tried the solution mentioned in this topic, but when I try to manually install KB2533523, it starts installing, but soon starts reversing progress, and afterwards tells me there is an unfixable error in the installation.

    Since I've had this long before, and tried multiple solutions, I decided to start from scratch, so started up Windows Update, and told it to install all updates. Yet again, it failed to install one update: KB2518870, and it gives me error Code 643: Unknown error in Windows Update occured.

    Right now I'm really stumped what my problem is, and I'm starting to think it's a problem within Windows itself. Could you provide any assistance in this matter? If you need any of my logs, tell me which, and where to find them, and I'll send them to you.
