I would install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable dll that is needed for projects built with Visual Studio 2010.

Download the files below depending on your operating system version. I would install all versions as they may be needed for different programs. Check in Programs and Features, do you show that you have installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable? If not, download from the links here.

Hey, you are all great.  The problem is resolved since Microsoft did some major updates on Windows 8 - Honestly, win8 is a lot less than XP, except from incorporating some new technology. and I am not talking about APS that takes over the entire screen

    • What a mistake!

Go to the install page (if you have 32 bit, it is:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5555 ) and click on "Install Instructions". Once you download it to your computer, go to the file where you saved it, right click with your mouse and choose "Run as administrator".

Doing so will extract/unzip the files. A window will open to do the install. You must click that you agree with the terms (I forget how it is worded, but there is a check box) and you can opt in on sending info. to Microsoft or NOT in the second box. Once you have done that, it will install and you're done.
