Windows 7 update install time taking a very long time

Well I have a Windows 7 OS, and I shut down my laptop yesterday but then it automatically went in sleep mode as I slept. As I awoken it in the morning I see its at installing updates 32 of 45. Though I see the same thing in the night with no change. I also see my hard-drive light flashing like it normally does when it's doing something but is this normal and if not what can I do? Also this computer is only 3 days old, and I have not made a recovery media due to lack of media I can use to use for the back up.

You may restart your computer, then use the below steps and check if this helps resolve the issues-

Method 1: You may use the windows update troubleshooter and check if it lists and resolves any issues -

Method 2: Also I would suggest you to check in the update history if you are getting any error codes for the failed updates. If you get any errors, do provide us the same to assist you better. To check the recent updates installed on your computer.

View updates history -

a. Click Start, Settings and then control panel (all items view). Click on the Windows Update icon.

b. Click on view update history link.

c. To view the details of a single update select and right click on a listed windows update, then click on view details. Click Close when done.

Method 3: **** Use the system update readiness tool –

Download the System Readiness Tool.The System Update Readiness Tool checks your computer and tries to resolve certain conditions that could interfere with the installation of updates or other software.Here is a link to download System Readiness Tool; you may do it according to the exact configuration of the computer:

****After you download and then run the System Update Readiness Tool, restart your computer. Then check if you are able to install the updates properly.

Hello

I provide PC support to a lot of customers.

Last 2 years ALWAYS after installation of fresh Windows (SP1 ... W7 or any newer version) it takes toooo many hours to receive updates.

I don't believe there is any technical excuses, IMO just the MS desktop operating system has reached to it's end.

I'm sorry to write this but experiencing this issue 20-30 times per month is absolutely frustrating.

ProofMakerGirl, you need Win Toolkit by WinCert. It is free and I use it lately as it installs all updates and other drivers and files to an new iso to copy to USB or burn to DVD. It has saved me countless hours. I am in the habit of making house calls, but reinstalling win7 is automatic take it home and reinstall. I can't charge people 2.5 hours to sit and wait to windows updates.

It's been a few months since I made my install USB and it still takes 2.5 hours to check for updates, even though there are only a handful of updates. This is just shady business practice by Microsoft to frustrate users to install win10.

But Win Toolkit has saved me numerous hours and headaches. WinCert even have helpful forums if you have questions or configuration issues.

Thanks for your suggestion.

But this requires installation ISO and reliable list and source of all present upgrade files.

Is there such a reliable source?

32 and 64, Home pro and Enterprise - it means x6 ISO?
- as your mentioned there still remain latest updates ...
PS. And the second biggest group of customers are users who accidentally are victims of pushed W10, which have turned their PC not functional.

To me 2 hours trying to fix W10 PC + 3 hours to restore/install previous op system + x hours to complete updates.

To customer result is EUR 100 minimum. Thank you MS :-)

The program has the updates source built-in and link to ISO files. It is super easy. I was going to use nlite, but I'd have to track down updates myself and find my own source. Then I found this program while searching for sources and decided to give this a try. It works awesome. It's free as well, I don't even see donations anywhere like most others.

You only need two iso, you can make any iso an all-in-one by removing the ei.cfg file. Do this for both 64-bit and 32-bit iso and it will be an all-in-one.

The enterprise edition may need separate. I'm not sure that one comes up. Bit there should be scripts on creating a custom ei.cfg file. otherwise, deleting the ei.cfg will give the default 4. starter, home, pro, and ultimate.

You can always go to Microsoft and download the 7 iso directly. They now host their own files for download win7, 8, and 10.

But read the wincert forums for more ideas and help.

forgot to add, I just got another call of I woke up to widows 10 welcome screen. **** happened, can you fix it! lol

I read MS is pushing windows 10 to automatic updates. So now it installs recommended updates if you have it selected.

Also, if you get the schedule windows 10 upgrade popup, if you hit X to close it out, MS now reassigns the X as okay and install windows. I don't know which are worse MS or the virus people?
