Windows 7 update install time taking a very long time

I agree since they are rolling windows 10 they started slowing down updates for windows 7 ,I thing they are forcing us to move to 10 but they don't realized that we can chose with linux or apple

You are right about being earlier than December.  I wrote December as that was when it got even worse. I hear the shoving Windows 10 will get worse in 2016 :(

So Microsoft doesn't seem to care about the experienced IT Pros who want to stay with Windows 7?  They don't care about people concerned about Privacy.  They (and all companies) hate it when people stick with a product for years and won't buy the 'new and improved' versions.  We all understand that, but 'new' doesn't always equate to better.  Lately, it means worse :(   Does anyone believe new kitchen appliances are better or last more than 3-5 years without a major repair that costs more than a new model?  Ever wonder why there are no more advertisements about a bored Maytag repairman?

If Microsoft ignores the grey haired IT Pros and concentrates only Gen X/Y/Z, they will be in for a BIG SURPRISE.  Those generations don't care about Microsoft at all.  I have clients whose children are going to university and need a laptop.  They ask me for a quote.  I give them options for HP, Dell and Lenovo models, all in the $600-800 range.  All are quality business models with great warranties.  What to they want?  Surprise, a MacBook Pro.  I tell them that for that price (here those 15" models start at $2400 then you add options, applecare, taxes and you are well over $3000), I can get them THREE PC based laptops and have change for a printer and more.  They are NOT interested, they only want Mac.

What I (and my colleagues) have been doing for the past 5 year is really learning Mac OSX / IOS and Linux.  We are all glad we did as that part of our businesses have been growing.

Maybe the problem only occurs with pros with 30 years experience, yes I'm another, yes I have exactly the same problem. I have the problem going back before December, Maybe September 2015. Basically since MS have been shoving Windows 10 down peoples throats.....

I too am an IT Pro with 30 yrs experience.  Windows Updates have been impossibly slow since early December 2015.

It was so bad and took to long, I completely reformatted a new HP laptop 5 times and tried ever trick I knew (and many I just learned) to try to get the security updates installed.  Nothing worked, except time.  I'm talking over 24hrs!!!

One tip I will share, once you get the list of 200+ Windows 7 Pro SP1 updates, only select maybe 10-20 at a time or it will take a week to work.  Also, only take the security updates unless you know which regular updates to skip.  That skip list is important or else you will get nagged for Windows 10.

Maybe the Microsoft servers are too busy pre-downloading unwanted Windows 10 updates to everyone?

Seriously, I know many IT Pro who are so fed up with Microsoft they stopped ALL updates and are seriously considering Linux and Apple.

I spend the holidays reverting Windows 10 back to 7 as my clients inadvertently clicked on 'something by mistake' and got Windows 10.

Wake up Microsoft, forcing everyone to Windows 10 will only **** off more people.

I'd rather Microsoft charge people for Windows but give them a privacy protected version.  We're not interested in trading our privacy for a free OS.  Who needs more SPAM (aka, 'targeted advertising')

Service Packs....

Microsoft has told their partner (I am one of them) that there will 'NEVER BE ANOTHER SERVICE PACK FOR WINDOWS 7 or 8'

They want to force everyone to Windows 10 so they can collect your personal data and browsing habits and sell that info to marketing companies.

Maybe someone will take that huge list of KB updates and roll them up into a huge file and post it somewhere and create their own Windows 7 SP1  (don't bother with Windows 8 SP, no one likes Windows 8)
