Windows 7 update install time taking a very long time

Well I have a Windows 7 OS, and I shut down my laptop yesterday but then it automatically went in sleep mode as I slept. As I awoken it in the morning I see its at installing updates 32 of 45. Though I see the same thing in the night with no change. I also see my hard-drive light flashing like it normally does when it's doing something but is this normal and if not what can I do? Also this computer is only 3 days old, and I have not made a recovery media due to lack of media I can use to use for the back up.

You may restart your computer, then use the below steps and check if this helps resolve the issues-

Method 1: You may use the windows update troubleshooter and check if it lists and resolves any issues -

Method 2: Also I would suggest you to check in the update history if you are getting any error codes for the failed updates. If you get any errors, do provide us the same to assist you better. To check the recent updates installed on your computer.

View updates history -

a. Click Start, Settings and then control panel (all items view). Click on the Windows Update icon.

b. Click on view update history link.

c. To view the details of a single update select and right click on a listed windows update, then click on view details. Click Close when done.

Method 3: **** Use the system update readiness tool –

Download the System Readiness Tool.The System Update Readiness Tool checks your computer and tries to resolve certain conditions that could interfere with the installation of updates or other software.Here is a link to download System Readiness Tool; you may do it according to the exact configuration of the computer:

****After you download and then run the System Update Readiness Tool, restart your computer. Then check if you are able to install the updates properly.

Thank-You, I have gone through this about 20 times in the last year. Doing clean installs of 7 to get to 10. It makes no sense. I have had some go fast 5 to 6 hrs. and some more than 24hrs. I have even had a few that let me install 10 after on an hr. or so. Anyway, your post sure put everything in perspective.

Finally someone has to guts to tell Microsoft what to do with their updates. I am also an IT guy and retired. Before retiring we were a Microsoft Business Partner and believe me I can tell that MS has gotten to big for their britches and could give a $%&# about how much trouble you, the consumer, is having with their products. Reason: not any viable alternative. Until someone challenges them in the market place, this is what you can expect regardless of what version of windows you are running. Personally, I bought an Apple.

LiNUX is your answer https://distrowatch.com is a good place to start a flavor to suit every need minus the viruses, addware, bloatware, spam, scamware. not to mention all the google ect trackers that leec of a new install of micronati windows.

Im Also a IT guy been working on windows systems for 20 years.

Fresh windows 7 install will take forever to update so i dont even bother because of the time it takes.

Decided to update the system after 5 moons and its been 20 mins and the dame thing still has not put up a list for me to continue with the updates.

I have disabled windows 10 upgrade and totally removed it from the registry i dont want to be another sheep for the micronati corp.

Thank God for GNU/LiNUX as i have this same system and others running of it when the need be 1gb Linux update would have downloaded and installed by now, while windows is still running in the background at a snails pace and before the support team shouts do this do that there is nothing wrong with my system so im not doing or trying anything!.

Time to shut this thing down and boot into Debian!
