Windows 7 Update Stuck at 35% (Configuring Windows Updates 35% Complete)

Hi, I have a Windows 7 Ultimate laptop that is stuck at 35% complete update. After rebooting the computer, we get the Windows login sound, then it states it is configuring Windows updates at 35%. I have let this thing go overnight and yet nothing. Below is the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log. (I've even tried plugging the computer into an Ethernet jack to see if it would work, but still no go...)

    Hello,

    I read all those posts and finally I restarted my computer in SAFE MODE. It hanged on 35% of course, but I was patient and after hour the LOGON screen finally appeared. After restart in NORMAL MODE problem disappeared.

    Hi,

    ·         Are you able to login to the machine?

    ·         Which update is being installed on the machine?

    If you are unable to boot to the machine, try the following steps to revert windows update changes and check if you can boot.

    a) Try to revert the update installation by running  DISM command  from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) & check if you are able to boot to the desktop normally.

    Follow the steps from this link to boot into Windows Recovery Environment. For more information, follow the section  ‘To open the System Recovery Options menu on your computer’

    b) You will need to know the date and time that the update was installed for this procedure.

    c) From the command prompt run the following command: "DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions"

    d) Then reboot your PC.

    I also had this issue recently due to Updating then running an elevated cleanmgr to get rid of old Win Update files. Anyway as has been said first reboot hung at 100%, reboot hung at 35% and I thought my goose was cooked. However I tried booting into safe mode and it appeared the system was hanging at disk.sys, there was a listing of files with disk.sys being the last but I left it run for ages and eventually I see a Windows screen but it says, Configuring Updates @ 35%, don't turn off ect. I let this run for a while thinking I was bunched only to see the Configuring bit change to Clearing Up Disk or some such and then it went into safe mode. A reboot had me up and running again. What I will say is be patient especially when trying to get into Safe Mode as it may look that your system is just locked up again but it's not.
