How do I change the mouse click from double to single?

Ha, not where you think, try this:

Click, Start>>>Control Panel>>>Folder Options>>>General Tab>>>Click items as follows>>>Single click/Double click

If you don't see folder options in the control panel, click on appearance and personalization, then folder options will be listed and change it to single click to open an item and point to select, save.

Do you want to always use a single click to open files, run programs, etc?  If so:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Folder Options .
  2. Under Click items as follows , select one of the Single-click options.

    Thanks, Dissed. I gave it a try, but resetting to defaults still left the setting grayed out. It is a problem with both a wired and a wireless mouse. Rebooting didn't change anything either. However, I did find the answer. The problem was a registry setting. The offending setting was in the ClassicShell settings under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    Apparently, if the ClassicShell dWord setting is 1, the setting itself needs to be deleted. After deleting this setting, everything works fine now.

    Have you tried to click on restore defaults,

    Go to all three tab sections and do restore defaults, and apply, on the last one click on apply and okay.

    Also what type of mouse is being used, wired or wireless,

    Wired simply unplug it, and boot your computer, start up login and plug it back in,

    Wireless uninstall it and then boot and then, change batteries reinstall.
