My annoyance at this moment with the Zune software extremely high right now. Time and time again I have experienced my database being corrupted, usually with a large update, and there is no way to restore:

    • The order in which content was added to my collection
    • Play counts
    • Track ratings
    • Meta-data for videos

The biggest issue is the ratings because when you have a huge collection like myself, it's not an easy task to rate even some of your songs. I eventually gave up on it because it seemed like such a waste of effort. Then like a fool I started rating songs on my phone, created playlists based on ratings and now my fricken DRM is screwed and once again I have to wipe my software database and start over from scratch because my Zune Pass content can't be verified.

This needs to be fixed! I know from past web versions of the social that our play counts are being recorded, we used to be able to see them. The software should sync that information and ratings so this kind of thing is avoided.

I recently got a Windows Phone and have started using the Zune software as a result. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the experience. The UI is beautiful, and Windows Media Player feels quite dated by comparison. I'm now using Zune as my main player, but there are a few things that would make it absolutely perfect:

    1. **The ability to queue up tracks for playback:**I can right click any track, album, playlist etc and choose 'play next' from the context menu. I can even quickly rearrange tracks in Now Playing with this method. This feature was only introduced in WMP12, and it has quickly become invaluable. Please don't make us wait until Zune Desktop 12.0 for this! I think every jukebox supports it now.
    2. Next/Previous list: In WMP, if I am playing some tracks, I can play something else, then use the back/forward buttons above the list view to go back to the playlist I was just playing. It even jumps back to the point in the song I was listening to. In Zune, if I start playing another list, I use the list I had just queued up, which can be quite frustrating if I want to quickly listen to another track then go back to a longer mix.
    3. Instant random playlists: In WMP 12, whenever I'm looking at a list view in the media library, I get the option 'Play favourites from X'. This gives me a random playlist, 2 hours or so long, filled with unrated, 3 and 4 star tracks from the list I'm viewing. This is much more useful than Zune's 'Shuffle All Music' option on the Jumplist, as I can see what tracks are coming next and queue up my own selections to the mix.
    4. Robust support for dedicated media controls: I know a lot of input devices now have dedicated media control keys. My mouse, a Logitech MX Revolution, has a thumbwheel which I've configured for play/pause and next/previous track, like many media keyboards. Using this in WMP is absolutely flawless, even if I am running other programs. In Zune, however, this is not so reliable, and on several occasions it has actually broken the playback controls within the Zune software itself! I don't have a media keyboard to test it with, and if this is a problem with Logitech's drivers rather than Zune itself, then please let me know and I will take it up with them.
    5. Support for syncing with other devices: Currently, I can only sync to my Windows Phone, and presumably to the Zune and Zune HD. Since there are CD burning options in Zune, it would make sense to include the option to sync to other generic multimedia devices too.

I'm very impressed by Zune, and it has masses of potential. It's even been praised by some of my cynical Apple-fanboy friends! I really hope you can implement these missing features soon, because it would really be unbeatable!

    Hello All,

I dont know if this has already been suggested, but just in case here it is.

It would be really really nice to be able to create folders on the Device or Collection part of the Zune software within music, pictures, etc.

Also would be nice to drag files from Windows into the Zune software to sync to my device.
