If you rate the songs through Windows Explorer, you get your 1-5 star ratings still. And they're relfected in Zune via the hearts.

I don't wanna go through 200 GB of music in Windows Explorer and rate songs. Keep it in Zune in one place.

Very Simply...no more Hearts, I want a 1-5 scale in someway at least. If you want to keep your cute hearts just let me rate from 1-5 or 1 - 10.....anything hearts, bunnies, stars, musical notes, I'll let some marketing genius at MS pick the rating icon of there choice, that's why they make the big bucks.

So tired of a all or nothing broken/unbroken heart rating system!!

Don't get me wrong, I agree that a 5-star system is much better than the overly simplified system in place now, but what are your reasons for wanting a more granular system?

Is there any need to have songs rated in such a way? I can't imagine making a playlist of songs that I 'like a little' or 'like a lot but aren't my favourites'. Or is it simply so you can keep more detailed information on your collection?

Would you use the ratings for something else, such as a customised way of categorising music (e.g. 3 stars are 'driving songs' or 4 stars are 'mellow songs' or something)? If that's the case, wouldn't a different improvement, such as more detailed access to metadata, be more useful?

I currently use the heart system in this sort of way. My favourite songs are given hearts, songs that I don't really want to listen to (mostly alternate versions, remixes, demos, etc.) are broken hearts, and everything else is 'no heart'. I can then make autoplaylists using ratings and genre to give me control. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good.

I'd use the rating systems to

    • Remove songs that I may become tired of listening to but don't want to "Broken Heart" it in order to remove from my Samsung Focus. So let's say I discover a great new song and 5 star, then go to 4 star it, then I'm kinda tired of it so i'd make it three stars. I could review 3 star songs on device or playlist and remove them if i want.
    • Reverse of that I could easily make a favorites playlist by Genre or Artist by only including 4-5 star songs.
    • Use 4-5 stars songs to put on my Gym Zune (8GB zune) by only selecting Rock and Fitness songs with more stars and it would make it easy to drag and drop onto device when i sort by Genres or Artist.

Could think of more, I make autoplaylist using SmartDJ all the time and having this rating system would make it easier to get rid of stuff that is downloaded via the Auto Refresh on Smart DJ playlist.

I've had a Zune Pass for 3 years and just so tired of the all or nothing Hearts.

I'm voting for a remote control app for Windows Phone 7 to control Zune on the PC. That's all really, otherwise it's great!

Also, why not make Zune the packaged media player for Windows? Why bother with Media Player? It's redundant and Zune is wayyyy better.

Microsoft has the reputation of the highest quality of software in the game in todays world from the xbox to windows, and the zune music software is no different. But, my problem with it is the underwhelming focus on applications available for download. I believe that if the applications are given more time and made much more numerous, the profits from zune HD sales would significantly increase. Even if the new apps were made to be purchased, it would be worth it, because people want apps on the go where they have their zunes with them. A side note to any microsoft support employees who read this, long shot I know, if keeping customers satisfied or competing with apple isn't enough motivation to release more apps, you'll hopefully be motivated by the fact that apple makes more money off the applications in the appstore than the ipods themselves. thanks for listening
